New Future for Children (NFC) Cambodia

New Future for Children (NFC) is a nonprofit local organization was established in 2003. Some of the children have lost their parents to AIDS.

NFC currently runs Community
Education Project (CEP), Transition House project (called "Midway House project"), and Countryside Education project (CSEP). New Future for Children is a children’s center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, founded in early 2003 to provide for the needs of children ages 2 to 18 at the center and 19+ at the Midway House who would otherwise be fending for themselves. Currently there are 35 children being cared for and protected by a dedicated Cambodian staff at NFC and 15 being supported at Midway House. Along with providing housing, three meals a day, clothing and medical care, NFC offers several in-house educational programs, including 3-hours of English class and 1 hour of computer class per day. Other activities include traditional Khmer music and dance classes, life skills workshops, a movie class and internships.

Today, our Student Coordinator and teachers conducted an important workshop on “Children’s Online Safety and Abuse” for the children. The workshop focused on six key areas: (1) different types of online platforms, (2) types of online abuse, (3) causes of online abuse, (4) the importance of being cautious when sharing or providing personal information, (5) being careful when receiving friend requests and accepting online friends, and (6) how to report online abuse to parents, teachers, and relevant authorities.

The children were divided into small groups, and each group was assigned a topic for discussion. They then presented their discussions and findings to the other participants. This group-based activity encouraged the children to actively participate, share their ideas, and learn from one another.

The children were excited and actively engaged throughout the workshop. They gained greater awareness of the potential risks of online abuse and learned practical ways to protect themselves and respond appropriately when they encounter unsafe or abusive situations online.

Our new volunteers put their teaching theory into practice after completing the teaching orientation with our Education Manager and observing classes.

Our Education Manager provides constructive feedback and guidance to help them improve their teaching methods and confidently manage their classes. Through ongoing support and classroom monitoring, we hope the volunteers gradually become more confident and effective in their teaching. 💐

Warmly welcome our new German volunteers, David and Tom, who will spend approximately one year at NFC, teaching English to our children. 🇩🇪🇰🇭

After discussing the working procedures and NFC volunteer guidelines, our Education Manager explained the supplement evaluation curriculum and has started their teaching orientation. This process will take some time as the new volunteers become familiar with their responsibilities and gain the confidence to handle their tasks independently.

Throughout their time at NFC, they will continue to receive guidance and support whenever they need it. We are very happy to have David and Tom join the NFC family and look forward to their meaningful contribution to the children’s education and development. 💐

NFC Alumni Reunion 🎉

The NFC Alumni Reunion was a wonderful opportunity to bring together former live-in children and their families, former and current staff members, former and current volunteers, representatives of NFC sponsors, and representatives of the NFC Board at NFC.

It was also a meaningful opportunity to hear from our former live-in children as they shared their unforgettable memories, important milestones, and personal journeys while living at NFC and since leaving NFC. It is inspiring to see how they have pursued their dreams and built their lives. Today, many of them have decent jobs, their own families, and children of their own.

The reunion also provided a valuable opportunity to hear short speeches from representatives of the NFC Board, donors, and the NFC Director, who shared their reflections on the achievements of our former live-in children and their vision for the future of NFC.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our regular and spontaneous donors whose generous contributions, across generations, have made a tremendous difference in the lives of children at NFC—both past and present.

With continued support from our donors, partners, volunteers, and friends, NFC will be able to continue its mission and milestones of supporting underprivileged children in communities and rural area.

Together, we have changed lives, created opportunities, and built a lasting NFC family. ❤️🙏

Remembering Chris Merritt and NFC former volunteers ❤️

NFC former live-in children and their grandchildren, former and current staff members, and volunteers gathered to commemorate the 4th anniversary of the passing of Mr. Chris Merritt, former Advisor to the NFC Director and supporter of donor relations.

Everyone came together to pay their respects and remember Mr. Chris with deep gratitude for his generous support, care, and commitment to the lives of NFC children and staff over more than 10 years, 2007-2017. This meaningful commemoration also honors former NFC volunteers and fundraisers who have passed away, remembering their valuable contributions and dedication to the NFC family.

Their kindness and contribution have left a lasting impact on many lives, and the great memory continues to live on within the NFC family.

We would like to thank you to former NFC live-in children and former staff members for sponsoring and current staff members for organizing this meaningful commemoration. 🙏❤️

Children’s Workshop on “Wants & Needs”

Today, nearly 80 NFC children participated in an engaging workshop focused on an important economic concept: “Wants & Needs.” The workshop was conducted by a group of Cambodian high school students from international schools in Phnom Penh, known as The Little Economists (TLE).

The children were divided into small groups to discuss, explore, and learn how to prioritize their wants and needs in their daily lives. Each group was guided and facilitated by members of the TLE team throughout the activities.

After the group discussions, representatives from each group presented their choices and explained their ideas. The top-performing groups received special gifts, while all participating groups were also given gifts and snacks as encouragement.

In addition to organizing this meaningful learning activity, the TLE team generously donated textbooks and reading books to the NFC library and for the children.

We would like to say thank you to the TLE team for their kindness, time, and commitment in organizing this valuable workshop and for their generous in-kind donations. The children gained a great learning experience and enjoyed the workshop very much. 🙏💐

After a two-week vacation, our children are excited to return to their supplementary education at NFC.

They are happy to be back and ready to move on to the next levels of their English and computer lessons. We are delighted to see their enthusiasm for learning and personal development.

Protecting Children Through Awareness and Education.

Child violence and child exploitation have long been serious concerns, especially for underprivileged and vulnerable children. As a result, some children have become victims, with their safety, well-being, education, and future lives being seriously affected.

To help address these issues, NFC organized another hybrid sharing session for staff members on “Prosperous Families and Child Marriage.” The session was facilitated by our Student Coordinator and the second CSEP Teacher, who shared important knowledge, lessons, and practical experiences with the team.

All participants appreciated the valuable information and experiences shared by the presenters and actively contributed to the discussion. They are encouraged to apply this knowledge in their professional responsibilities and in their day-to-day interactions with children and families.

In the near future, our staff will also organize these awareness-sharing sessions with children and their families. Through these efforts, NFC hopes to contribute to a safer environment for children, stronger families, and a safer and more supportive community where children can grow and thrive. 🙏
