We are excited to introduce our new project partner, ReefSystems!
ReefSystems develops modular artificial reef systems designed to create habitat, support marine biodiversity and contribute to the recovery of marine ecosystems and fisheries.
Together, we are preparing a demonstration project with the Chrouy Svay Community Fishery in Koh Kong Province. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the community, involving local members in the production and deployment of ReefSystems’ MOSES reefs. Looking further ahead, the reefs might also create new opportunities for mariculture.

During their recent visit to Cambodia, the ReefSystems team met with the Chrouy Svay community to discuss the project. The community was very enthusiastic about the plans and shared their feedback on which reef designs would be most suitable for the area.
Later the team also presented the project plans to relevant government stakeholders.

We are looking forward to see what this partnership brings and to share more as the project develops!

At MCC, dugongs are where our Marine Mammal and Seagrass Projects meet. By studying them and the seagrass meadows they depend on, we aim to support the protection of both dugongs and their habitat in Cambodia.

Why is it important for children to learn about nature?

Wildlife education helps children understand nature and biodiversity while nurturing their natural curiosity, empathy, and sense of responsibility for the environment.

As David Attenborough once said: “If children don’t grow up knowing about nature and appreciating it, they will not understand it, and if they don’t understand it, they won’t protect it.”

We believe that one of our most important responsibilities is to teach the children and youth of Cambodia about the ocean they live so close to, to spark their love for this precious ecosystem and the many wonders it holds. When children understand why wildlife and natural habitats matter, they are more likely to care about their protection and become involved in conservation.

By helping children build a connection with the ocean today, we hope to inspire the future ocean guardians of Cambodia, young people who will protect its wildlife and habitats for generations to come.

Our educational outreach also gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate Marine Protected Area Day and highlight why protecting the ocean matters.

At the inauguration of the new Fisheries Department building, Minister His Excellency Dith Tina proclaimed an immediate zero-tolerance policy against illegal fishing. A strict focus is placed on the destructive impact of trawlers, which ruin marine habitats and threaten rare species such as Irrawaddy dolphins, dugongs, sea turtles, seahorses, as well as the fish, crabs, and shrimp vital to our communities.

From now on, regulations will be enforced strictly and systematically, with absolutely no exceptions. Within the Kep Marine Fisheries Management Area (MFMA), dedicated conservation teams are conducting continuous monitoring to report violations to the authorities. Protecting our ecosystems and fishing communities requires total respect for the law: let's act today for future generations.

Welcome to guest lecture in this week!

The Centre for Biodiversity Conservation (CBC) will host a hybrid guest lecture event under the title "Marine Conservation in Kep Archipelago: Current Status and Future Management Plan" as in the attached photo. This presentation will be provided by Ms. Lor Samphors, a Marine Education Program and Outreach Leader at Marine Conservation Cambodia.

This event will take place at room #418, Building A (main campus), Faculty of Sciences, Royal University of Phnom Penh, Russian Federation Boulevard, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh on Thursday 23rd July from 1:00 to 2:30 PM.
