PACE (Promoting Access to Community Education), Kenya PACE creates equitable learning opportunities for students from rural and slum areas in Africa. http://www.pacemakerinternational.org/

We believe in a Kenya where all children access quality education. However, today, this is not the case. Kenya requires 70,000 more teachers to fully meet the educational needs of its 10 million enrolled students. According to research published by Uwezo Kenya in 2011, each primary school has an average shortage of 4 teachers. The national average student: teacher ratio is 52:1. Schools in rural a

nd slum areas are disproportionately affected by this shortage. Each year, 400,000 bright, young Kenyans graduate from high school. The majority go on a 9 month gap year before joining public university. PACE unlocks their potential. By effectively engaging these young people, we will unleash 216 million hours of learning support for students in under-resourced schools. Our mission is to create equitable learning opportunities for students in rural and slum areas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad4gjzyKYgY

Our fellows continue to raise awareness among learners about environmental conservation through hands-on projects. From waste management and tree planting to gardening, they are empowering young learners with environmental knowledge, a foundational move towards building greener, more resilient community.
Together, let's take action for our planet. When we protect the environment, we also protect children's health, safety, and future.
Happy World Environment Day!

Every child deserves to grow up safe, protected, and heard.

The alarming rise in incidents of assaulted, missing, and murdered children across Kenya is extremely concerning. It is a clear call to strengthen child protection and deepen community vigilance.

Together, let’s raise awareness and stand for every child’s safety and well-being.

We asked our fellows the vital question:

“What does it take to build strong readers ?”

From daily read-aloud practice, phonics practice to shared reading moments, their ideas are bold, and deeply rooted in lived classroom experience.

Why does literacy matter to us?
Literacy may start with learning how to read, but that's only the first step. We believe literacy is the foundation for lifelong growth. It is how children learn to express their thoughts, understand others, and confidently navigate a world built on written language. When children develop strong literacy skills early, everything becomes possible.

"Ryan, a bright but physically challenged learner, had struggled to find her footing in class. She couldn't read or write like her peers, and it was clear she felt like an outsider. But I was determined to make her feel seen and valued. I started tutoring, involving her in activities, giving her small leadership roles, and offering plenty of encouragement. At first, she was hesitant, but slowly her confidence grew. She started participating in class, smiling, and even helping her peers. Her transformation was incredible - from a shy, withdrawn student to a happy, engaged learner. Seeing Ryan thrive, her parents were initially thrilled, but they eventually decided to explore other options, seeking a school that could better accommodate her unique needs. Though it was tough to see her go, knowing she'd have a chance to reach her full potential made it worth it. Ryan's story is a testament to the power of inclusive teaching and the impact it can have on a student's life ." Jackline Chepchirchir - TEN teacher
