Illicit financial flows undermine public services and weaken trust in institutions. Stronger collaboration across sectors is essential for transparency, accountability and better governance. Kenya’s recent gray listing signals a critical moment for stronger compliance, oversight and collaboration.

Kakamega County is marking one year since joining the OGP Local Cohort, and the momentum is stronger than ever.

From open budgets to public participation, climate action, and access to information, the county has pledged ambitious reforms through its OGP Action Plan (2024–2027).

This December, Network For Research & Governance, Mzalendo, Open Government Partnership (OGP) Kenya and the County Government of Kakamega and Twaweza are convening stakeholders for the Sauti za Wananchi report on Participation, Democracy & Trust, alongside celebrating progress and reflecting on Kakamega’s OGP journey.

Citizen-generated data will anchor the conversations, ensuring citizens’ voices, lived realities, and evidence guide the county’s next phase of open governance.

Today we joined the Laikipia County Development Authority and a wide range of partners and stakeholders for a special appreciation event at Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi.

In his remarks, H.E. Governor Irungu shared a clear and ambitious vision:
“We want Laikipia County to be the springboard, the county to be emulated and to learn from on best county practices. And I want to thank you, our partners, because we cannot do it without you.”
