On this 2026, the message is clear: the Earth is sending urgent signals, and our response must match the scale of the challenge. The call to act has never been more important.
In Kenya, communities continue to face the consequences of increasingly frequent droughts and floods, disrupted livelihoods, growing food insecurity, and rising competition over scarce natural resources. For children, these challenges are especially profound, shaping not only their present well-being but the environments they will grow up in and depend on.
At ChildFund Kenya, we are working with communities to strengthen resilience through sustainable disaster risk reduction and practical environmental restoration actions, such as rehabilitating degraded lands in schools and public spaces, alongside climate adaptation efforts, while also supporting peacebuilding where environmental pressures fuel conflict—because a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment is fundamental to every child’s ability to thrive.
One of the ways we are turning commitment into action is through the Re-greening Africa Project supported by Dow, where we are conducting large-scale tree planting campaigns in Kajiado, Makueni, and Kiambu counties. Since October 2025, we have supported communities to plant over 500,000 trees, a significant step toward our goal of planting one million trees by June 2027. We are also using a digital tree-tracking application to monitor tree planting and survival rates, helping ensure that restoration efforts translate into lasting environmental impact.
