The African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE) is a not-for-profit organization and a continent wide network of Agricultural economists working in agriculture and broadly related fields of applied economics on issues related to improving the productivity of African agriculture. This 24-month fellowship aims to empower African women scientists by strengthening their leadership, technical expertise, and influence in climate-resilient agricultural research. The program includes
mentorship, leadership training, and capacity-building in areas such as gender integration, science communication, and climate adaptation.

The opportunity is open to experienced women agricultural scientists (minimum 7 years’ experience and a master’s degree) from Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Senegal.

The She Leads African Food Futures (SHEAF) Fellowship is closing soon for African women professionals from Kenya, Malawi, and Senegal working to address gender inequalities in agri-food systems.

The fellowship offers leadership training, mentoring, coaching, and peer learning to strengthen skills in gender-responsive agrifood systems policies and programmes. Applicants may come from government, NGOs, academia, research, the private sector, and civil society. Up to 25 Fellows will be selected, with priority given to women in AGRA-supported organisations.

AAAE Receives Government Endorsement Following CS Engagement

The African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE) paid a courtesy visit to the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, as part of preparations for the 8th AAAE Conference, to be hosted in Nairobi from 21–26 September 2026.

During the engagement, the Cabinet Secretary formally endorsed the conference plans, congratulated the Local Organising Committee, and reaffirmed the Government of Kenya’s support. He emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration between academia, policymakers, and practitioners to address climate change and enhance smallholder farmer productivity.

The conference will be held under the theme “Smart Agriculture: Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Trade for a Climate-Challenged Africa,” and will convene agricultural economists, researchers, policymakers, and development partners from across Africa and beyond.

AAAE looks forward to working closely with national and continental stakeholders to deliver a high-impact conference that advances evidence-based agricultural policy and practice in Africa.
