The Mtaa Safi weekly activity is a vibrant community initiative dedicated to promoting health, wellness, and positive youth engagement. Held once every week, the program brings together young people in a safe and energetic environment where they participate in cardio workouts, general fitness training, and lively Zumba sessions.
Through these activities, participants not only improve their physical health but also build confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of community. The combination of structured exercise and fun, music-driven movement makes the sessions both effective and enjoyable, encouraging consistent participation.
Beyond fitness, Mtaa Safi plays a crucial role in empowering youth by providing a constructive outlet for their energy, fostering teamwork, and promoting healthy lifestyles. It is more than just a workout—it is a movement that inspires young people to stay active, connected, and motivated toward a better future.

Our new project at our hub in Kibera, known as An Ordinary Place, is a safe and welcoming space dedicated to addressing the rising cases of su***de and depression in our community. Led by Mtaa Safi and Nane Experience, this initiative creates open conversations around mental health, reduces stigma, and connects individuals to support systems. Through dialogue, shared experiences, and community-driven activities, we aim to restore hope, strengthen resilience, and remind everyone that they are not alone in their struggles.

Honoured to have been represented at the UN-Habitat Open-Ended Intergovernmental Expert Working Group on Adequate Housing for All, where key discussions focused on shaping inclusive and sustainable living spaces for every community.

Coming from informal settlements like Kibra, our participation shines a light on the daily realities of housing, dignity, and the need for development that truly includes everyone. It’s a proud moment for our team a reflection of the collective voices we carry, the women and youth leading change, and the spirit of community that drives our work every day.
