Yesterday, the Norwegian Church Aid Advocacy Programme Africa (NAPA) held a productive co-creation meeting with the Anglican Development Services - Kenya (ADS) team, reaffirming a shared commitment to designing locally led, sustainable, and impactful interventions that respond to community needs and aspirations.

Led by their Executive Director Mr. Bwibo Adieri, discussions revolved around partnership with on Climate and Environmental stewardship and the link with Social Cohesion. Together, we explored ways to strengthen climate resilience, peacebuilding, social cohesion, community empowerment, and accountability. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, we continue to shape a shared vision for community-centered, evidence-informed programming.

ADS is the specialized development arm of the Anglican Church of Kenya, responsible for the social transformation work of the Anglican Church across the country. We look forward to turning our discussions with them into meaningful action that advances resilience, justice, and inclusive development.

Tomorrow, the world observes the International Day of Living Together in Peace. We would like to share an article by Shirleen Njoroge, Peace Coordinator at the Norwegian Church Aid Advocacy Programme, reflecting on what it takes to build trust in an increasingly polarized world.

As we continue peacebuilding efforts across Africa with our partners, our focus remains clear, to move:

✅ From dialogue to understanding
✅ From inclusion to influence
✅ From engagement to transformation

The Mountain that Kills
As a young girl, Bongekile Pozane loved the beautiful yellow mountain she could see from her home. It was where she learned to swim, where she went to find peace, and where she holds some of her most cherished childhood memories. Little did she know that the mountain was actually a toxic waste dump from the mines, filled with radioactivity, radon, asbestos and arsenic. “Now we just call it the killer mountain,” she says.

In Snake Park located in Soweto, South Africa, communities live alongside toxic mining waste left behind after decades of extraction. For many, leaving is not an option.

Together with our partner, the Bench Marks Foundation, Norwegian Church Aid has stood with these communities for years, advocating for community rights, environmental justice, and reduced inequality.

We had the pleasure recently to visit the Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa ( FECCLAHA ) to learn about their youth‑led advocacy for peace. We also visited the Anglican Development Services (ADS) Kenya to explore their farmer‑led advocacy for climate‑smart agriculture.

We were deeply inspired by the confidence and clarity with which young people and farmers spoke about their challenges and the solutions they are advancing together with our partners.

The Norwegian Church Aid Advocacy Programme Africa (NAPA) is proud to support locally-led approaches that catalyze change as communities themselves envision it.

Here are two impactful quotes, and a few photos from the visits:

💬 “Support provided by ADS does not only benefit me because I have made it my mission to teach my community and invite them here to my model farm to learn climate‑smart farming. I am especially passionate about empowering women farmers to improve the quality of life in women‑led households. If you farm smart and embrace climate smart innovations, you can harvest plenty from a small piece of land. All you need is knowledge and support.”
— Salome Ndegwa, Community Own Resource Person, Anglican Development Services

💬 “Mukuru Informal Settlement, where I live, is the only informal settlement in Nairobi that has not experienced volatile post‑election violence, despite its diversity. Youth are at the forefront of sustaining this peace through advocacy, mobilizing communities using art, drama, and music; and actively participating in elections, including serving as election observers to strengthen electoral accountability.”
— Samuel Odhiambo, Co‑founder of Youth Peace Clubs, FECCLAHA

We are grateful to walk alongside partners turning local leadership into lasting impact. Together for a peaceful and just Africa.
