The Humpback whale migration has arrived in Kenya!
Our citizen science network Kenya Marine Mammal Network has done it again.
The importance of members of the public contributing important data on these magnificent marine mammals
Alistair from Kilifi was taking his early morning chai and spotted a number of breaches (when the whale launches itself out of the water) so very easy to see.
Ways of spotting your whales from land are various,
1. Blows - seen as the gush of air and water like a 2m geyser directly into the air
2. Tail slapping - as the name suggests, repeated tail slaps on the water
3. Pectoral fin slapping - front fins slapping the water
4. Pectoral fin waving - front fins out of water in the air.
