Wasda Kenya in collaboration with the Wajir County Government have successfully completed a two day training for the community health promoters (CHPS) from all the five sub counties .This training was made possible through the SRRP project funded by USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance
This impactful training brought together dedicated community health promoters from all five sub-counties of Wajir, uniting them with a common goal: to build healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities. By equipping these health advocates with essential knowledge and skills, we are investing in the future well-being of Wajir's residents.
During the training, participants were engaged in a comprehensive curriculum that emphasized:
Primary Health Care Practices – Understanding the core principles of providing accessible, cost-effective, and community-led health services.
Disease Prevention & Management – Tools and strategies for identifying, preventing, and managing common health challenges like malaria, diarrheal diseases, and malnutrition.
Maternal & Child Health – Enhancing the skills needed to promote safe pregnancies, childbirth, and early childhood care, ensuring that every mother and child in Wajir thrives.
Health Education & Communication – Empowering health promoters to be effective communicators, spreading vital health messages and encouraging community-wide participation in health initiatives.
Resource Mobilization & Sustainability – Encouraging participants to seek innovative solutions for sustaining health programs and ensuring the continuity of health improvements.
The training also covered the importance of community involvement, data collection, and advocacy, empowering these health promoters to take ownership of their local health systems and become key players in improving healthcare access across the region.
As part of the SRRP, this initiative is critical for achieving long-term health outcomes in Wajir. By investing in the capacity of local health promoters, we are ensuring that health services are not only available but are deeply rooted in the communities they serve. Together, we’re building resilience and paving the way for a healthier future for all.
We are proud of all the participants who are now equipped with new skills and knowledge to drive change in their communities. Thank you to USAID for funding this important project, and to the Wajir County Government for their continued support.
