It is a membership organisation governed by Board of Trustees and managed by a Secretariat. It was formed in 2005 by institutions involved in nature-based activities under the facilitation of Kenya Wildlife Service Community Department. KWS has been instrumental in developing community based tourism products and outreach programs addressing human-wildlife conflict which led to formation of CBTE
in the County and many projects has taken life among them being Mlilo. The main mission of Mlilo Community Based Tourism Association is to conserve the natural resources through sustainable utilization for wealth creation and to improve the standard living of the people of Taita Taveta County.Mlilo is currently implementing a number of projects aimed at biodiversity conservation, water catchment conservation, climate change and livelihood generation.
