Today, the vibrant community of Rukanga village gathered with purpose and pride as Kasigau Wildlife Conservancy hosted a powerful engagement — not to reflect on what’s already built, but to ignite what’s about to begin.

Cattle Breeding for Resilient Livelihoods
In partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), we’re excited to announce a game-changing initiative: the future provision of high-quality breeding bulls to interested community members. This program will uplift local cattle breeds, improve productivity, and strengthen household incomes — turning conservation into a source of prosperity.

Tourism That Honors Land, Legacy, and Adventure
Kasigau is preparing to unveil a tourism experience like no other — one that blends nature, culture, and history:

Kiwanjani Camp – A serene wilderness retreat where guests will sleep under the stars and wake up to the rhythm of the savannah.

Kasigau Cultural Center – A vibrant hub of Kasigau traditions, where storytelling, dance, and craft will preserve and share our rich heritage.

Battlefield Tourism – A journey through time, where visitors will explore historic sites and learn about the region’s untold stories.

Kasigau Mountain – A sacred climb offering panoramic views, lush trails, and cultural depth for hikers and heritage seekers alike.

This engagement marks the beginning of a shared journey — one where conservation empowers, tourism educates, and community leads. Thank you to the people of Rukanga for your vision, your voice, and your commitment to building a future rooted in pride and possibility.

Community Engagement Update: Bungule & Jora Villages

Today, the Kasigau Wildlife Conservancy held a fruitful community engagement meeting with residents from Bungule and Jora villages, focusing on two key pillars of community development — Livestock Breeding and Tourism Development.

🐄 Breeding for Better Livelihoods
To strengthen the livestock sector, the conservancy is introducing an improved bull at Kasigau Ranch to help local farmers upgrade their breeds. This initiative aims to boost productivity and improve community livelihoods.
As emphasized by a participant individuals who wish to benefit from this service will be encouraged to bring their cows to the ranch for breeding. This collaborative approach will ensure better management and accessibility for all.

🌍 Tourism Development & Cultural Heritage
The conservancy also engaged the community on ways to unlock the full potential of tourism in Kasigau. Participants agreed that there’s a need to develop diverse tourism products that reflect the beauty, culture, and heritage of the region — ensuring that the community can begin to reap the fruits of sustainable tourism.

🏛️ Kasigau Cultural Center – Celebrating Our Heritage
A major highlight of the discussion was the proposed Kasigau Cultural Center, to be established at the ranch. The center will showcase the rich Kasigau culture, including traditional artefacts, attire, stories, and the fascinating connections between wildlife and local naming traditions.
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) has pledged to fund the construction and equipping of this cultural hub — a project that will not only preserve local heritage but also attract visitors from around the world.

🌾 Looking Ahead
With unity, vision, and commitment, Kasigau is on a journey toward empowerment, conservation, and sustainable development. Together, we can ensure that both people and wildlife thrive for generations to come.

RUBY BOREHOLE WATER PROJECT HANDOVER CEREMONY

In the heart of Kasigau Wildlife Conservancy, the dry season had always been a rough patch for both the wildlife and the rangers who protected them. Water sources diminish, and animals often have to travel longer distances to find the precious resource. This struggle not only threatened the animals’ survival but also increased the risk of human-wildlife conflict as animals ventured closer to villages in search of water.

Perceiving the urgent need, conservation enthusiasts Elephant Cooperation in collaboration with African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and Kasigau Wildlife Conservancy settled to launch a project to create sustainable water sources. They collaborated with our members of staff, including our team of rangers, and environmental experts to design two water troughs (one for wildlife and the second one for livestock), storage tank and solar-powered pump that would provide an authentic water supply for the animals.

Ultimately, the day of the handover has arrived. The Kasigau Wildlife Conservancy's Board of Directors, the proceeding Directors and the entire staff was buzzing with excitement as they hosted the representatives from African Wildlife Foundation.

The handover ceremony ended with a feast at Kiwanjani camp, celebrating the new chapter in the conservancy's story.

The water project had not only brought a vital resource but also strengthened the bonds between the conservationists, and the local community.

We genuinely appreciate the support.

Improving Community Livelihoods is one of the strategic objectives of Kasigau Wildlife Conservancy.

Today we had a triumphant meeting with Rukanga Water Project Committee which was focussed on giving feedback on the water reticulation plan in favour of the Rukanga Community developed through technical advice by the Taita Taveta County Department of Water.

This plan will guide on what needs to be prioritized during the implementation.

Kasigau Wildlife Conservancy in partnership with African Wildlife Foundation, aims at supporting the Rukanga Community through their Water Committee to implement part of the plan.

Through this project which ensures enough and accessible supply of this precious commodity both for humans and livestock, we will be optimistic that we contributing to mitigating the rampant Human Wildlife Conflict.
