“Team Dirty Berty” began in 2008, with the UK Rhino Charge, and successfully won the event several times. For a new challenge it was decided to ship our vehicle to Kenya to take part in the full event here. The team is made up of Rob Dodson and Jamie Hendriksen from Kenya and James Dodson and Ben Ramsbottom in the UK, and our supporters! All of us have been taking part in Rhino Charge events for s
everal years, on different teams, with great success. We have now dedicated ourselves to our team, “Dirty Berty”, and one of the smallest cars in the event, “Berty”. Our aim is twofold;
Firstly, to take part in, and help raise funds for, the Rhino Ark Trust through the Rhino Charge Event. This leads directly to the conservation of thousands of acres of habitat for the world’s dwindling rhino and elephant populations within Kenya. As figures show, unless drastic action is taken to preserve these creatures and their habitat, they will not be around for much longer. Secondly, is to get “Team Dirty Berty” into the top three finishing positions, of the main event in Kenya. Our first attempt saw us sadly suffering a terminal breakdown at the event start in 2013! However all was not lost, as the funds we raised still contributed to the event…. Our second attempt was much better, after endless man hours of work on the car, practice and preparation, we finished 10th in the 2014 event, a full 64 positions higher than the previous year. We have more work to do on Berty, repairs from the challenges of last years event, and new ideas to try out on the vehicle. We have already started preparing the car for the 2015 event, we want nothing less than a top three finish!
