As UNEA-7 comes to a close, we reflect on a powerful week of dialogue, commitments, and collective action toward a more sustainable and resilient planet. Governments, civil society, youth, and grassroots actors came together in Nairobi to advance bold resolutions on climate action, biodiversity, pollution, and environmental governance.

By adopting 11 resolutions, 3 decisions and a Ministerial Declaration from climate and nature to pollution, AI and resource use, the focus now must turn to implementation and impact to advance multilateral solutions for a more resilient planet.

The Assembly reaffirmed the importance of inclusive multilateralism, science-based decision-making, and locally driven solutions in addressing the triple planetary crisis, while recognizing the critical role of communities, young people, and innovative approaches such as sports, education, and culture in driving environmental change.

Leaving UNEA-7, we carry forward renewed energy, partnerships, and responsibility to translate global commitments into real action on the ground. For Africa and the Global South, the outcomes of UNEA-7 are a call to strengthen implementation, invest in youth leadership, and ensure no one is left behind in the transition to a sustainable future. The work continues beyond the conference halls—through community action, policy advocacy, and collaboration—to protect our planet for present and future generations. 🌍💚

After the closure of the on Sunday, UNEA-7 proceeds today for the second day under the theme “Advancing Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet.” Delegates — including environment ministers, scientists, youth, civil society and private-sector actors from over 170 countries — gathered to tackle urgent global environmental challenges. The agenda for the Assembly includes around 16 draft resolutions on critical issues such as glacier preservation, controlling massive seaweed blooms, managing pollution from artificial intelligence, and safeguarding deep-sea ecosystems.

On the opening day, high-level speakers urged a shift away from incrementalism: slow, tentative steps will no longer suffice, given the accelerating threats of climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and land degradation.

Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Amri, President of UNEA-7, delivered a strong call for unity, transparency, and inclusiveness:

He reminded delegates that the success of this Assembly depends not only on the final outcomes — the resolutions adopted — but also how those resolutions are reached: with trust, compromise, and inclusive engagement.

Together, we can build a healthier, greener, and more resilient planet. 🌱⚽🌿
