The Kenya Forum brought together women leaders in agroecology, policymakers, PELUM Kenya members, media practitioners, mentors, and mentees to reflect on progress, strengthen connections, and shape the future of womenโ€™s leadership in agroecology.

The forum highlighted the power of mentorship, cross-generational learning, movement building, and stronger networks across policy, research, markets, and farming communities. Participants shared experiences and lessons that continue to strengthen womenโ€™s leadership and influence within the agroecology movement.

A particularly powerful moment was the recognition of rural women farmers and pastoralist women, whose stewardship of land, seeds, indigenous knowledge, and food systems continues to drive agroecological transformation across Kenya.

A major milestone was the launch of the ๐˜ผ๐™’๐™Š๐™‡๐˜ผ ๐˜ฝ๐™ช๐™จ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™š๐™จ๐™จ ๐™„๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™ช๐™—๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ ๐™๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™™, designed to support women-led agroecological enterprises through business development, certification, branding, packaging, and market access opportunities. The product showcase by AWOLA , , and PELUM Kenya members demonstrated the innovation and impact that emerge when women are equipped with the right support and opportunities.

The collective commitment was clear: to continue growing the agroecology movement through mentorship, collaboration, and womenโ€™s leadership.

Empowering women in agroecology means strengthening businesses, transforming food systems, and building more resilient communities.

As part of efforts to strengthen organic markets and increase awareness of PGS, we conducted exposure visits last weekend, Saturday, and today for 60 members drawn from the Nooya PGS Group in Kiserian and the Mukameni PGS Group in Machakos. The visits were organized in collaboration with Kcoa_khea, Cshep Kenya Organic Foods and Kenya Organic Agriculture Network

The groups visited the INOGOF Organic Market located in Garden Estate, Nairobi. The market is managed by 14 organic farmers and has been operational for the past 10 years, serving over 400 customers from Garden Estate, Thika Road, and surrounding areas. The market operates every Saturday through a pre-order system, where customers place orders online during the week and collect their produce from the market on Saturday mornings.

The exposure visits aimed to:
1. Create a peer-learning experience among PGS farmer groups.
2. Provide practical lessons on organic market operations, from production planning to marketing and sales.
3. Strengthen group governance and leadership structures.
4. Enhance participants' understanding of market record keeping and business management practices.

During the visits, participants interacted directly with INOGOF members and learned about the group's journey in establishing and sustaining a successful organic market. Key lessons included customer relationship management, collective marketing approaches, quality assurance through PGS, market coordination, production planning based on customer demand, financial management, and record keeping systems.
The exchanges provided valuable insights and inspiration for the visiting groups, demonstrating how organized farmer groups can develop sustainable market channels, build customer trust, and improve incomes through collective action.
