Today, Farm Youth Experts participated in a one-day training facilitated by Sigmund Company on data collection for the MESPT end-term survey.
The 5-day exercise will engage 359 conventional banana farmers and 34 organic banana farmers, in addition to Farmer Group Discussions (FGDs). The aim is to assess the project’s impact and its contribution to the sustainability of the banana value chain.

Today marks the final day of our training with Capital Strategies Kenya. Over the past sessions, Farm Youth Experts CBO have gained valuable insights on Group Dynamics, Proposal Writing, Sales & Marketing, Leadership & Governance, and Partnership & Networking. We are now better equipped to strengthen our CBO and drive sustainable community impact.

Farm Youth Experts CBO met with Taita Taveta Banana Co-operative (TATABA) to discuss supporting farmers in accessing and growing high-quality Grand Nain banana seedlings. Currently, seedlings are available at a subsidized price of KES 85 each. Both parties agreed to collaborate on farmer training, seedling distribution, and awareness campaigns to boost adoption and productivity.

A collaborative meeting held in Taveta bringing together Farm Youth Experts CBO, Tataba, the Ministry of Agriculture, CABI, and Spraying Service Providers — all united with a shared goal of enhancing food security and safety.

Farm Youth Experts trainers conducted a pilot Mkulima True campaign to farmers in Taveta. The Mkulima True campaign was led by CABI PlantwisePlus who had equipped Farm Youth Experts as trainers. The Mkulima True campaign will be targeting all farmers in Taveta and the larger Taita Taveta County. The Mkulima True Training modules focused on equipping smallholder farmers with knowledge on:
1.Understanding Agrochemicals product labels, pictograms and colour codes
2.Use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs)
3.Spray Services-Knapsack sprayer calibration and dosage | Knapsack sprayer parts, functions and nozzles
4.Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
5.Identification of illegal pest control products in the market.
This training marks a series of several trainings to come. Farm Youth Experts is seeking collaboration and partnerships with like-minded stakeholders to spearhead transformative interventions in Taita Taveta and beyond.
The training was graced by key enabling stakeholders such as Danida Green Business Partnerships / Danida Market Development Partnerships DMDP's Officers from Micro Enterprise Support Programme Trust (MESPT), Farm Youth Experts CBO, PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS BOARD, Taita Taveta Banana Cooperative Society (TATABA) and MoonBerg Organic Farms Limited.
