🎓✨ Scholar Spotlight | Janet’s Journey to Becoming a Teacher

Education continues to open doors through the ELK Foundation scholarship program.

Meet Janet Naserian, a student at Aberdare Teachers Training College who is currently in her third semester of study and on track to graduate in August 2027.

Growing up in Il Polei village, Janet dreamed of becoming a teacher. Upon graduation, she will be among the first young women from her community to earn a teaching degree and return home as a professional educator. Her goal is to use education to empower others and serve as a role model for young girls pursuing their own dreams.

Through ELK’s post-secondary scholarship program, Janet has been able to continue her education despite significant challenges along the way. We are proud to support students like Janet as they build brighter futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Thank you for helping make stories like Janet’s possible. 💙

🎓🤝 Investing in Students, Strengthening Communities

Education continues to open doors through the Empowering Livelihood Kenya Foundation scholarship program.

ELK scholarships are divided equally between the Samburu and Il Polei communities, with 50% awarded to women and 50% to men. Each student pursues a vocation designed to directly strengthen and serve their community.

By covering tuition, materials, and living expenses, ELK scholarships allow students to stay focused on their education while building futures filled with purpose and opportunity.

These scholarships do more than support individual students. They strengthen families, build communities, and create lasting impact for generations to come.

If you would like to help more students access these opportunities, please visit our donation page:

🐝🌿 The Sabache Women’s Group | Building Opportunity Through Beekeeping

Recently, members of the ELK Foundation USA Board had the opportunity to visit the Sabache Women’s Group in Samburu as they prepare to launch their beekeeping project.

This visit provided an important opportunity to listen, learn, and hear directly from the women about the project proposal they submitted to ELK. After careful review, their proposal was approved, and implementation is now underway.

The women have already selected a project location, engaged local leadership, and begun laying the groundwork for what is ahead. Their excitement, preparation, and commitment to working together has inspired the entire community.

This is what community-driven development looks like. Women identifying opportunities, creating solutions, and building sustainable futures together.

📚✍️ The Nandadapo Literacy Group | Learning, Growth, and Community in Action

The Nandadapo Literacy Group continues to show what is possible when opportunity and determination meet.

With ongoing support from the ELK Foundation, 25 students (23 women and 2 men) are learning to read and write, many for the very first time. For some, one of the most meaningful milestones has been something many of us take for granted: being able to write their own name.

Among the group are two men who never had the opportunity to attend school as children and are now courageously taking on this journey alongside the women.

Classes originally met outdoors, but bad weather often made learning difficult. When finding a consistent classroom became a challenge, the community stepped in with a solution. A local school generously opened its doors and now provides classroom space at no cost, sharing that they believe the ELK Foundation is helping strengthen and improve their community.

This classroom serves a dual purpose. Literacy classes meet from 2:00 to 4:00 PM while school is in session, and from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM during school breaks.

Participants are already sharing how literacy is changing their daily lives, from helping their children with homework to managing small businesses.

This is what community-driven impact looks like: practical solutions creating lasting change, one classroom at a time.

💧🌍 Community in Action | Puaata Women’s Water Harvesting Update

In Il Polei, access to clean water continues to transform daily life.

ELK partnered with the Puaata Women’s Self Help Group to install rainwater harvesting systems for 40 households that already had metal roofs, a requirement for water collection. That left 27 members who did not yet qualify.

In an incredible act of community ownership, all 67 members of the women’s group contributed funds so the remaining 27 households could also qualify.

Today, 67 water tanks and gutter systems have been installed, and every tank is full.

This is what sustainable change looks like. Neighbors investing in neighbors, families gaining reliable access to clean water, and communities creating new opportunities for education, work, and growth.
