A mother. A protector. A guardian of the wild.
Story of Jane Lepeta.
From the Ngare Narok community on the western side of the Mathews Mountains, Jane walks the frontlines of conservation as part of the Kalepo ranger Team . But her journey doesn’t end when her shift does. she returns home to her most important role: being a single parent, raising her child with strength and hope.
Every patrol she takes is not just about protecting wildlife it’s about securing a future for the next generation.
Behind every uniform is a story of sacrifice, resilience, and courage.

Where the sun, the soil, and the Samburu meet Kalepo isn’t just 450,000 acres of unfenced wilderness at the foot of the Mathews Mountains. It’s bomas at dawn, livestock safe in their kraals, and families who’ve called this land home for centuries.

What brings people back isn’t the landscape. It’s the Samburu people who have called this place home for centuries. The guardians who walk this land before light. The elders who teach balance. The youth who choose to protect what’s theirs because here, we support community that protect critical wildlife habitat while respecting the rights and needs of local people.

My name is Diana Joshua Baynit. I am 29 years old. I studied at Pasiansi Wildlife Training Institute (PWTI) in Mwanza, where I got a certificate in Tour Guiding and Tourism Safety (2020/2021).

In March 2023, I joined as a volunteer. Out here in Kisampa Conservancy, I’m walking a path that hasn’t always been easy but it’s one I’m proud to call mine.
Working with an anti-poaching team as a woman means showing up every day with strength, courage, and purpose. It means protecting wildlife, standing for conservation, and proving that passion has no gender.

I also carry a dream close to my heart to become a great female guide and inspire others in the wild spaces through sisters.

One real challenge women face in this field is constantly having to prove themselves in a male dominated environment.
I’m here. I’m learning. I’m growing. And I’m not backing down.

Young minds, powerful stories; Supported by@Karisiawalkingsafaris
At Ol Motiok Koija Tiemamut Kijabe Musul,
Pupils creativity came alive in the most inspiring way. Through paint, pencil, and charcoal, these talented students captured the beauty of people, landscapes, livestock, and wildlife telling stories of their environment.
This wasn’t just an art competition. It was a celebration of connection between children and nature, creativity, dreams and opportunity.

With cash prizes and an unforgettable Nairobi art trip awarded to the top three winners across Under 18, Under 14, and Under 10 categories, these young artists are being empowered to see their talent as a pathway to something greater.

This is a reminder that conservation begins with awareness, and awareness can start with a single drawing.
Let’s continue to nurture these voices, protect their inspiration, and invest in a future where both people and wildlife thrive together.

Where stripes gather, the story of the wild unfolds
At this watering point at Hidden valley in Ndutu conservation area, zebras take the lead moving in large numbers for safety, their sharp eyesight and hearing acting as an early warning system. Close behind, wildebeest follow, relying on the zebras to help detect danger. It’s a powerful example of cooperation in the wild, where survival is often a shared effort.

Did you know? A lion’s canine teeth can grow up to 7 cm (almost 3 inches) long. These powerful teeth are designed to grip and deliver a fatal bite to prey, an essential tool for survival in the wild.
