As Kenya advances its agricultural sector, a critical conversation is emerging around the continued use of highly hazardous pesticides.
Recent findings from the “Poison for Profit” report highlight a concerning reality: substances banned in other regions are still in circulation within our markets. This raises serious questions about food safety, farmer health, and environmental sustainability.
At RODI Kenya, we see this as a call to action.
The long-term impacts of these chemicals include declining soil health, biodiversity loss, contamination of water systems, and increased health risks for farming communities. Addressing this challenge requires a multi-stakeholder approach.
We advocate for:
• Stronger regulatory frameworks and enforcement
• Increased investment in agroecological practices
• Capacity building for farmers on safe, sustainable alternatives
• Greater accountability across agricultural value chains
Agroecology offers a viable path forward—one that prioritizes resilience, sustainability, and the well-being of both people and ecosystems.
The future of agriculture in Kenya must be safe, inclusive, and sustainable.
