Today, on Trans Day of Visibility, we at Refugee Trans Initiative (RTI) stand in pride, strength, and solidarity to celebrate the courage, resilience, and existence of transgender individuals everywhere — especially trans refugees and asylum seekers.

Visibility is power. For many in our community, being visible is an act of bravery in the face of discrimination, violence, and exclusion. Yet we continue to rise, to speak, and to demand our rights.

We honor every story, every struggle, and every victory. We remain committed to creating safe, inclusive spaces where trans people can live freely and authentically.

We are writing during a very difficult moment for our community. RTI is currently struggling with unpaid rent and utility bills, and our landlord has been urgently requesting payment. We are doing everything possible to revive our livelihood projects, but the pressure is overwhelming.

We have recently received four new trans refugees from Uganda and Rwanda who urgently need shelter and stability. As a mother trans refugee-led organization in Kenya, we feel the responsibility deeply, yet our resources are stretched beyond capacity.

We humbly ask whether you might be able to provide support to help us stabilize during this crisis. This would give us breathing space as we await responses from grant applications and donor outreach.

We would also love to explore future collaboration opportunities and discuss how we can work together to strengthen support systems for trans refugees in Kenya and Uganda.
