Day 2 of our Farmer Training: A Day of Growth and Learning!
Today, we dove into the essentials of companion planting, crop diversification, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM)—focusing on local, traditional, and community-based methods to manage pests, diseases, and soil health without relying on synthetic inputs. We also explored the innovative push-pull technology, a powerful agroecological approach.
54 smallholder farmers participated, including:
• 32 newly recruited contact farmers
• 22 returning farmers
• 34 women, 20 men, 6 youth, and 1 Key Pop
What stood out today? The farmers’ active participation, their inquisitiveness, and eagerness to implement new practices. Bringing together new and experienced farmers was a highlight, encouraging mutual learning and knowledge sharing.

Empowering Farmers, Transforming Communities!

Yesterday, a JAM team participated in a backstopping training session for smallholder farmers in Rangwe Sub-County at the Gobathi Women Group. The session achieved an impressive 90% attendance, highlighting strong community mobilization and active stakeholder engagement.

The training brought together key technical partners:

ICIPE shared insights on Black Soldier Fly technology and push–pull farming techniques
The Ministry of Agriculture (Department of Livestock & Fisheries) guided farmers on improved livestock feeding practices
JAM facilitated sessions on agroecological approaches

The impact is already being felt!
Farmers reported that households previously spent about KES 100 daily on vegetables for small families and over KES 300 for larger households. Since partnering with JAM, many have embraced the cultivation of African leafy vegetables, leading to:

Improved household nutrition
Increased income
Reduced food costs

Participants expressed strong satisfaction with the training and are committed to applying the knowledge gained to improve their livelihoods.

Together, we’re building resilient communities through sustainable agriculture.

Yesterday, the CEO of the JAM Community Integrated Project Dr. Kennedy Okoth Otieno had an incredible meeting with a representative from Peace Corps Kenya. The main focus was to explore potential partnership that would bring volunteers from America to St. Elizabeth Swindon Hospital-our health facility dedicated to providing quality care to our community.
This collaboration is a step forward in enriching the hospital with new skills and expertise, while also giving volunteers a chance to make a real difference.
We’re excited about the possibilities this partnership holds and the positive impact it will have on both the volunteers and the people we serve.
