At Nalala Tree Foundation, we believe that Africa’s strength lies within its communities especially women, girls, youth, and Indigenous peoples who continue to protect land, biodiversity, culture, and livelihoods despite growing challenges.

As we mark this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to environmental conservation, land justice, climate resilience, and community empowerment. We envision an Africa where development is inclusive, sustainable, and rooted in the voices of the people.

The future of Africa depends on protecting our natural resources, respecting Indigenous rights, and investing in community-led solutions for generations to come.

The recent floods that washed away the Lolgorian–Kilgoris Bridgeare this morning is more than an inconvenience they disrupt education, endanger mothers giving birth, and put entire communities at risk. Yet, these are the realities that indigenous peoples face every day, often with less than 2% of global funding reaching them, despite being at the heart of conservation.

Climate change is not just an environmental issue it’s a justice issue. Vulnerable communities bear the heaviest burdens, while decisions and resources often overlook them.

We urge everyone to stay safe:

Do not cross rivers or damaged bridges.

If stranded, seek shelter in nearby homes.

As the Maa proverb reminds us: “Melakua ang inchiu".

Prevention is better than cure.

Justice, safety, and climate resilience must start with those most affected. Let’s stand together to protect lives, communities, and the land.

In this picture, a Maasai pastoralist woman walks on with quiet strength 🤍

She carries a mattress, a school box, and all the requirements needed to admit her child to school, balanced on her back. There is no car, no matatu, no hired transport. Sometimes a small boda boda is used when affordable, but often, like her, parents walk long distances on foot, burdened not by weight alone, but by love and responsibility.

As climate impacts and recurring droughts claim livestock, the main source of pastoralist livelihoods, their hope shifts and settles firmly in their children. Even when animals die, dreams do not. Education becomes the inheritance they fight to protect, the future they believe in, and the light they carry forward.

Every step she takes is an act of parental love, care, and an unbreakable hunger for education, all for a better tomorrow .

Today marks a historic moment in Kenya.
Amid the beauty of our traditions, the graceful Maasai attire, and the rhythm of our melodious songs and dances, we celebrate a long-awaited victory the return of Amboseli to its rightful custodians.

After fifty years of struggle, justice has finally begun to take shape. The Maasai people, known as the true guardians of nature, have always maintained an extraordinary harmony with wildlife from the roaring lions and majestic elephants to the wise leopards, the mighty buffaloes, and the free-spirited hippos.

This is more than a homecoming; it is a recognition of truth, resilience, and coexistence. The Maasai have always embodied peace, accommodation, and humanity, living side by side with all people, tribes, and governments. Let the world understand that our calmness is not weakness it is wisdom rooted in respect for life and the land.

Land rights are not just a demand; they are justice.
Conservation is not foreign to us; it is our way of life.
As the Maasai Nation, we stand proud unique, resilient, and excellent continuing the journey to reclaim and protect our ancestral lands for generations to come.

Our heartfelt regards go to the Government of Kenya with the leadership of His Excellency Dr. William Samoe Ruto the president of the Republic of Kenya this marks a new chapter in the pursuit of justice and inclusion. Reclaiming Our Land, Restoring Our Rights, Reimagining Climate Justice.

In a powerful and eye-opening training convened by the Nalala Tree Foundation , in collaboration with the International Lawyers Project (ILP),Maasai Indigenous climate activists, land rights defenders, gender advocates, youth, women, persons with disabilities, community leaders, environmental experts, and legal practitioners from across Kenya and Tanzania came together with one shared purpose to reclaim the narrative of climate justice.

At the heart of the conversations was a profound truth: carbon market projects can never be just when they strip Indigenous Peoples of their ancestral lands and silence community voices. Across the region, such projects continue to threaten culture, livelihoods, and the essence of sustainability itself.

Together, participants called for people-centered, rights-based climate action one that protects land, life, and dignity, and builds solutions through Indigenous knowledge and community consent.

The session stood as both a revelation and a call to action true climate justice begins with Land Justice .

✨ The Nalala Tree Foundation alongside the International Lawyers Project, remains steadfast in its mission to educate, empower, and defend Indigenous communities , ensuring that the road to adaptation, mitigation, and just transition is rooted in equity, truth, and respect for the rights of all.
