Enkusero-Keri self-help group members has diversified its livelihoods by adding chicken rearing.

Lorna Mpaira used her savings to start a small village-based enterprise, gradually growing to sell eggs and chicks while also improving her family’s nutrition. She began with 50 local chickens and relied on the local market to earn income.

DAY 1: Gender champion training is taking place in Kimuka village, targeting self-help group representatives.

Access to and control over resources are important topics for household discussions involving both men and women. Sharing diverse skills and capacities at the family level is essential.

The Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) model helps women save money to improve their lives. It also gives them a voice in making financial decisions and encourages them to invest.

This model is used by 22 MIDI self-help groups, and most members, 87% are women.
