Conservation warriors Rangers training report January 2025.
In the vast, untamed landscapes of the Maasai Mara, wildlife rangers are often the first — and sometimes only — line of response when emergencies strike. Far from hospitals and paved roads, their ability to act quickly can mean the difference between life and loss.
That’s where Conservation Warriors comes in.
Founded by Collins Ochumbe — known and loved in his community as Doctari — and Robert Ball, Conservation Warriors is dedicated to protecting wildlife by protecting the people who protect it. Collins is more than a conservationist; he is the trusted medic to the Maasai, caring for those who are ill or injured while tirelessly advocating for stewardship of Kenya’s natural resources.
Together with Wanderful Tanzania , this partnership is building something lasting: practical, on-the-ground training that strengthens ranger safety, confidence, and effectiveness in the field — while also investing in education for rangers and youth to ensure conservation continues for generations.
In January 2025, Conservation Warriors led a two-day intensive training in the Maasai Mara, focused on:
• Basic First Aid and Basic Life Support (including CPR)
• Emergency preparedness in remote conservation settings
• Snake bite management and wildlife-related injuries
• Evacuation, communication, and real-world field simulations
These rangers operate in high-risk environments every day. Equipping them with lifesaving skills doesn’t just protect individuals — it strengthens entire conservation operations and the ecosystems they defend.
This is what conservation looks like to us:
Not just protecting animals, but empowering people.
Not just reacting to crises, but preparing for them.
Not just preserving the wild, but teaching stewardship, resilience, and care.
We’re just getting started — and we’re grateful to walk this path alongside those who believe that conservation is strongest when it begins with community
