In behalf of Siana Social Accountability Network I was so jubilant to have attended the annual youth workshop meeting facilitated by Masai Mara Conservancies Association ( MMWCA).The fundamental essues of engagement was Data and carbon standards, mara conservancy models, and a framework toward effective youth inclusion on matters of governance ,decisions making, capacity building and digital literacy skills. It was hard knock session.

Participation of CVA Members at Elimu Mashinani Event

On 2nd September 2025, three CVA members representing Siana, Naikarra, and Olderkesi participated in the Elimu Mashinani event held at Maasai Mara University.

During the event, the team actively engaged in discussions on education, accountability, and youth involvement in decision-making. They shared experiences from their respective communities, highlighting challenges facing learners and proposing practical solutions to strengthen education systems at the grassroots level.

The CVA representatives also networked with other stakeholders, including university students, education officials, and civil society partners, thereby raising the visibility of CVA’s work in promoting transparency, social accountability, and the right to quality education.

Their presence ensured that voices from the community were well represented in shaping the agenda for improved learning opportunities across Narok County.

THE DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD – 2025

Introduction.

The Day of the African Child was commemorated at Leshuta Comprehensive School on 16th June 2025, bringing together key stakeholders in child welfare, education, and community development. The event focused on promoting children's rights and ending harmful practices affecting African children.

1. Plan and Budget for the Child – Emphasizing the need for deliberate allocation of resources toward children's education, health, and protection.

2. Say No to FGM – A strong call to eradicate Female Ge***al Mutilation and protect girls’ dignity and health.

3. Say No to Child Marriage – Advocating for the enforcement of laws protecting minors from early marriages.

4. Say No to Child Pregnancy – Promoting awareness, education, and community responsibility to prevent early pregnancies.

5. Say No to Child Labour – Urging stakeholders to keep children in schools and away from exploitative labour

Poetry Performance – An exhilarating poem presented by students of Moi Girls Naikarra High School, capturing the struggles and hopes of the African child.

Traditional Dance – A cultural performance by Leshuta Comprehensive School students, celebrating African heritage and unity.

Children’s Song – A heartwarming musical presentation from children supported by Compassion, highlighting the importance of child rights.

The event served as a powerful platform to raise awareness and inspire action against the injustices faced by African children. All speakers and attendees reaffirmed their commitment to building a safer, more inclusive, and empowering environment for every child.

To engage relevant stakeholders in addressing critical issues affecting key sectors within the region, fostering collaboration and identifying sustainable solutions.

Key Sectoral Issues Discussed:

1. Education Sector

Enrollment Challenges:

Low enrollment rates in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).

Teacher Service Commission (TSC) deployment and staffing gaps.
Infrastructure:

Acute shortage of classrooms affecting learning conditions and enrollment capacities.
2. Health Department

Healthcare Access:

Inadequate number of health care centers, particularly in remote areas.
Medical Supplies:

Shortage of essential drugs in public hospitals.
Human Resources:

Insufficient number of doctors and qualified medical personnel

3. Administrative Sector

Corruption and Governance:

High levels of bribery reported in various administrative processes.

Security Concerns:

Inadequate security personnel and systems leading to increased crime.

Operational Resources:

Shortage of operational vehicles hampering effective service delivery.

4. Agriculture

Livestock and Farming Challenges:

Distribution of expired veterinary drugs leading to livestock deaths.

5. Gender and Social Protection

Harmful Practices:

Continued prevalence of Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM), largely due to neglect and weak enforcement.

Cultural pressures on boys to assume traditional roles, e.g., becoming warriors, at the expense of education.

Social Welfare:

Implementation and strengthening of the Inua Jamii program for vulnerable groups including the elderly, widows , Orphans and people with disabilities.

2. Abandon FGM – Protect girls’ rights. Say NO to harmful traditions.

3. Curb Child Pregnancy – Educate, empower, and support girls to stay in school.

4. Stop Child Marriage – Every girl deserves a childhood and a future.

We met with a group of 20 parents including the village Elders, pastors and CPV members and discussed the issues that affect the well being of children.

The parents and guardians said that it's barbaric and uncouth to get parents violating the children Rights.

On 14th to 18th of April 2025, we conducted an Alternative Rite of passage meeting at Naikarra, olderkesi and siana location of 240 pupils. 180 are girls and 60 are Boys

The meeting was meant to End child marriage,FGM and child pregnancy.It was an eye opener to people within those vicinities that a girl can be a woman or be an adult without undergoing the cut. After the fifth day, a graduation was Held to mark an End of an outdated culture and usher in the modern culture.
The parents and stakeholders vividly agreed to curb and do away with the things of the past that negatively affect the lifes of children.
