As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Leo Project partnered with Mpala Research Centre for an engaging session led by TLP’s Clinical lead Njeri and Reginah, nurse.

The session focused on breast cancer awareness, how to perform breast self-examinations, and the importance of early detection. The team also had the opportunity to carry out breast examinations and answer questions, creating space for open conversations and learning.

It was encouraging to see the team actively participate, ask questions, and take time to better understand their breast health.

Thank you to Mpala Research Centre for welcoming us and creating an opportunity to bring these important conversations closer to the community.

Early detection starts with awareness.

The EasyOne Air Spirometer is helping our clinical team assess lung function, detect signs of respiratory illness earlier, and distinguish between different lung conditions.

This technology supports more informed treatment decisions, helps us monitor patients’ progress, and guides timely referrals when specialist care is needed.

In a rural setting where access to advanced respiratory diagnostics is limited, it brings us one step closer to providing better, more informed care for our community.

Our 3rd annual Traditional Birth Companion (TBC) training will take place from 23 - 27 November. Each year, this training is made possible thanks to generous donors from around the world. We hope you’ll join this giving community. More details below, and link in bio to donate.

Across our first two training cohorts in 2024 and 2025, 38 TBCs have been trained, with encouraging results:

- 100% can recognize prolonged labour as a danger sign.
- 95% would listen to a mother experiencing emotional distress.
- Participants demonstrated improved responses to postpartum haemorrhage, an important step in recognizing and responding to a life-threatening complication.

These skills matter in communities where reaching a health facility can be difficult and TBCs play an important role in supporting women during pregnancy and childbirth.

Many donors have already supported this year’s training, but we still need to raise $2,075 to make this training possible.

Sometimes, the impact of a programme reaches further than we imagine.

TLP’s psychologist, Paul and Njeri met with a local group of widows and widowers for a conversation about mental health and wellbeing. The connection came through a community health promoter who recently graduated from our Mental Health Programme, supported by SNF Org.

It’s a great reminder that when we equip people with the knowledge and confidence to support mental health, they can help connect others to care.

One person, one connection, and a ripple effect that reaches the wider community.

At The Leo Project, our pharmacy provides medicine at cost, without adding profit margins. This helps make essential treatment more affordable and supports patients to stay consistent with the care they need.

It’s one more way we’re working to make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and community-centred.

Our third Adult Digital Literacy cohort has completed their training, gaining practical computer skills and the confidence to use technology in everyday life.

Alongside digital literacy, the program creates space for Sexual and Reproductive Health education, giving learners access to information that supports both their digital skills and their wellbeing.
As we celebrate this cohort, we’re opening the doors to new learners.

Through our community water kiosk, families have a more accessible source of clean water for drinking, cooking, and everyday needs.

It’s a simple resource, but its impact reaches far beyond the kiosk itself — supporting health, wellbeing, and making one essential part of daily life a little easier for our community.

We’re grateful to work alongside our partners and community to make access to clean water part of building a healthier, more resilient community.
