From Turah Kimanjo to Arizona: A Journey of the Heart Back Home.
I come from a forgotten place—a small, dusty village tucked deep in the wilderness of Turah, Kimanjo in Laikipia North, Kenya. I come from the very heart of marginalized indigenous communities, where clean water is a privilege, education a distant hope, and healthcare barely exists. I come from a people whose voices have been silenced for decades by distance, poverty, and abandonment.
I grew up walking long distances barefooted just to get to school. I studied under acacia trees. I watched mothers give birth without proper care, children drop out of school, and families struggle every day for food, dignity, and survival. But I carried a dream. I knew deep inside my heart that if I could ever make it out, I’d find a way to come back—not just to visit, but to transform.
Today, I live and serve in the United States, Arizona, as a Registered Nurse, saving lives and restoring hope. But every time I close my eyes, I still see my village. I hear the stories of the elders. I remember the hunger, the drought, the silence in the eyes of children with no future. I have not forgotten. My heart never left.
That’s why I founded the Loitamany Community Initiative Foundation—a movement, not for politics, not for fame—but for restoring the dignity and dreams of my people. From building toilets and latrines, to empowering young girls with sanitary pads, to establishing tree nurseries and food programs, to now launching our first ever Community Office in Jua Kali, I believe we are just beginning.
But I can’t do this alone.
To my dear friends in Arizona, to those who’ve shared workspaces, churches, and neighborhoods with me—I need you now. You’ve seen my heart. You’ve witnessed my integrity. Stand with me. Help me uplift the forgotten. A donation of just $10, $20, $50 a month can support a girl through school, provide food to an orphan, help plant a tree in a dry land, and give hope to thousands. Your support is not just charity—it is healing history.
To my global friends and well-wishers, I invite you to be part of this journey of purpose. Let us write a new story—one of hope, dignity, and transformation. The people of Laikipia North have waited long enough. Together, we can take them to the place they deserve.
“We are not what we have, but what we give. And when you give from the heart, you change more than lives—you change destinies.”
Thank you for walking with me. Thank you for believing in the power of love and action.
With humility and hope,
Samuel Makatai Loitamany
