Advocacy remains one of the most powerful tools for driving positive change within communities. It shapes conversations, influences policies, amplifies unheard voices and pushes society toward accountability and progress.
The big question is, what exactly is advocacy and how do individuals and communities effectively engage in it to create meaningful impact?

Across different spaces, young people, community leaders and changemakers are increasingly exploring these conversations, unpacking the role of civic engagement, leadership, policy influence and collective action in addressing the challenges affecting society today.

Currently at the Gilgil Youth Hub, these discussions are actively taking place, with insightful and thought-provoking conversations unfolding around advocacy, youth participation and the power of communities to influence change.

"Uongozi mbaya, maisha mabaya," sauti za mtaani.

What if the past two years looked different if more of us showed up to vote? If we chose wisely and held leaders accountable from the start? Maybe preservation of life?

Maybe voter registration isn’t just a process. Maybe it’s prevention. And maybe it’s the youth deciding to step up, take action and shape what comes next.

Voter registration means different things to different people. For some, it’s a voice. For others, it’s power, accountability or hope for change. At its core, it’s a chance to be counted and shape what comes next.

We asked and here’s what they had to say.

Registering as a voter has often meant long queues, slow processes and walking away drained. But on November 14, 2025, that narrative changed.
Tribeless Youth, in partnership with Midrift Hurinet and IEBC reimagined the experience through the Chukua Kura Concert.

Picture this, live band music setting the vibe .A captivating puppetry show drawing in the crowd and dancers bringing energy . All while young people seamlessly engaged with IEBC officials to register as voters.

As a result 117 new voters were registered, furthermore powerful conversations on voter education and community accountability were held, helping voters understand just how important it is to participate in the electoral process.

This was more than just an event, it was a statement.

Civic participation can be vibrant, accessible, and deeply engaging when driven by youth creativity.

May 1st is a day set aside to honor the achievements and the social-economic contributions of Kenyan workers to the nation's strength and prosperity. However, the Francis Atwoli COTU led was determined to turn the day into a rally of political sermons and heaping songs of praise to the political elite, while blatantly ignoring the cry for fair wages, labour rights, protection of workers and provision of their safe working conditions.

Scorecard to COTU and Francis Atwoli: F for FAIL.

Youth hubs remain at the heart of TribelessYouth’s initiative for advocation for good governance and accountability. For the better part of the last two weeks, we embarked on a mission to touch base with members of our youth hubs and to understand how far they have come since our last engagement in October, 2025.

At the Gilgil hub the issues surrounding youth unemployment remains at the epicenter of their agenda. Complaints from how the youth in the area have time and again been sidelined from accessing jobs with the ongoing construction of the multibillion Rironi-Mau Summit Road.

In Nakuru Town West, discussions around the budget making process evoked very passionate conversations among the members. Additionally, issues of wastage of public funds and corruption were discussed and members wanting those involved held accountable for these vices.

In Nakuru Town East, a success story of how the youth were able to push for three projects in their sub county to completion. These are the Abangolewa rescue center, an ECDE center and a drainage system within Flamingo ward.

In Naivasha the hub members demonstrated how they were able to bring back sanity to the Naivasha Level 4 hospital by holding their duty bearers to account and demanding better service delivery at the hospital.

Following numerous attempts to try and reach out to the hospital management to seek clarification over pressing issues concerning service delivery at the health facility, it took the efforts of the members to hold peaceful protests in their area so that their issues could be addressed.

In Rongai, the group remains formidable and at the forefront of demanding transparency in the use of public funds within their subcounty. The members raised concerns, there is duplication of projects by different levels of governments, i.e. national and county governments, such scenarios have led to the misuse of public resources.

Bahati Youth Hub, had honest conversations about real issues affecting them, from a culture of handouts that ignores long-term impact to stalled projects and even arrests for speaking up within their own ward. Hub members from the sub counties thanked Tribeless Youth for its continued support and are looking forward to more engagements throughout this year.

Members from all sub-counties acknowledged TribelessYouth for its continued support and look forward to more engagements throughout the year.
