The Beehive Foundation

The Beehive Foundation This is the reality in Kenya - the child-mother. Based in the town of Nakuru, The Beehive is a home which provides vital care and support.

A home dedicated to the rehabilitation, education and loving support of vulnerable child-mothers, using a holistic approach to help child mothers on the road to recovery from trauma. Young girls, sometimes just twelve years old, falling pregnant and finding themselves facing desperate and life-threatening choices which no child should ever have to face: isolation, homelessness, prostitution and ab

ortion. At The Beehive, we are taking action to transform the lives of some of the most at-risk young mums and their babies. Additionally, the girls receive education, either academic or vocational depending upon their individual ability or interest, as well as learning essential life skills required by both the traditions of their culture and the demands of an increasingly-developing third world nation. The babies also receive education once they reach an appropriate age, meantime being able to grow and progress in a loving, caring and stable environment. Our 1st Beehive 'baby', *Alice, who is now 11 & half .... and she is a big sister! She absolutely adores her new baby sister, and our hearts are so happy for them all.
When *Katherine, *Alice's mummy, came to us almost 12 years ago, as our first girl, we were so devastated to learn her story. And it has been a long road to this point. But it truly is so beautiful to see how God has made a way, He has restored her heart and healed her wounds and allowed her to find love and create a small family.

The toddlers absolutely love playdough! Home-made of course, as it is very expensive to buy here, if you can even find it! (Even our big little ones, love to join in when the playdough comes out!)
And then of course, there is the sneaky nibbling on the bits of salty old dough that get stuck on the fingers. Not the best. But they are toddlers! πŸ’™

Little *Eve is doing so much better! Two weeks ago, after another trip to see the paediatric cardiologist in Nairobi, she was diagnosed with TB from the results of her CT scan along with her general welfare. This was confirmed by a TB specialist. She was immediately started on TB therapy and a specific nutritional therapy too. And so far so good!
*Eve will be on these for the next 6 months, with monthly visits back to Nairobi.
Ironically she probably caught the TB when in hospital for the first time back in February, when she was admitted because of bronchiolitis!
So let’s hold her in prayer, for the hole in her heart and for her complete recovery from the TB πŸ™

Baby *Annie, one contented little girl! Now just over 2 months, and what a story of beautiful growth this is. Her mummy, *Cherry, comes from the poorest of homes, and she struggled so much to settle in to The Beehive when she first arrived. She has a learning disability and also did not speak either Swahili or English, but her vernacular Mother-tongue.
But fast forward to today, and *Cherry is settled, she is a happy smiley young girl who just loves everyone here, and little *Annie is such a responsive and precious blessing ❀️

*Nora & baby *Joel were reintegrated back with family last week. To us, this is an answer to prayer and always our goal: for a girl and her little one to be able to return safely to family, to be back in their own community and to be able to grow and thrive outside the boundaries of a 'home.' Children should be with family, they should not be in 'homes' and so our hearts sing when this is possible and becomes a reality. Sadly it is not always the case, but for *Nora & *Joel, we rejoice πŸ’š

A number of you have asked how *Rhea is doing after the tragic loss of her unborn twins. Understandably it has been an incredibly hard time for her: such a huge thing to go through, especially at such a young age. She has been experiencing the manifestation of emotional pain as physical pain. She is waiting to start some specific counselling to help her to process what has happened, and our ladies are all being wonderful with her, understanding that the bottom line of what is needed right now is simply loving kindness.
Thank you for holding her in prayer πŸ™

Today we celebrate our eldest Beehive 'bub', *Blessed. 12 today!
For us this is a particular milestone birthday: *Blessed is one of our 'babies', yet we still have with us two girls who were just 12 when they became mummys.
Just take a moment to think about that!
And so we reflect on just how thankful we are that we have been able to give *Blessed a safe and protected life, a wonderfully loving and secure home and we continue to tuck her into our hearts πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

In amongst the heavy sadness of this week this little one decided to make her appearance into the world: baby *Gianna, 3.1kg / just under 7 pounds, born to our Uganda mummy *Sandy by caesarian section after a long slow labour.
Welcome, precious one πŸ’—

Last Friday was a very sad day. *Rhea lost both her twins.
She had gone into labour overnight on Thursday and on Friday they were born though natural labour and delivery, both baby boys, and the cords tangled. A monochorionic-monoamniotic pregnancy was extremely high risk.
*Rhea didn't ask to be sexually abused, she didn't ask to get pregnant, she didn't ask for a Mo-Mo twin pregnancy, and she certainly didn't ask to deliver her babies so early.
At just 14 years, this has been so much for her to bear, and our hearts are heavy πŸ’”
