Kenya National Policy Dialogue on RA-PURE

Kenya has made good progress in expanding access to renewable energy while pursuing an ambitious agenda to transform its agricultural sector and build climate resilience.

However critical gaps still remain;
In July, the Power for Food Partnership hosted the National Policy Dialogue on RA-PURE bringing together different stakeholders to respond to three key issues;
- Limited policy coherence between agriculture, energy and climate sectors, resulting in fragmented implementation at national and county levels.
- Insufficient investment in integrated RA-PURE solutions due to financing gaps, limited evidence of scalable business models and weak private-sector confidence.
- Limited evidence and learning to inform policy refinement, investment decisions and large-scale adoption of regenerative agriculture powered by renewable energy technologies.

The Kenya dialogue was the first in a series of dialogues that will also be convened in Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia.

Different contexts. Common aspirations.

On this International Youth Day 2026, we celebrate young people who are not waiting for change but creating it.

Across different communities young people face different realities. Yet many share common aspirations: access to opportunities, decent work, meaningful participation, economic independence, a healthy environment and the ability to shape decisions that affect their lives.

For us in the Power for Food Partnership, this means going beyond creating opportunities for young people. It means creating systems where they have the access, agency and voice to shape solutions and lead change.

From regenerative agriculture and climate action to renewable energy, entrepreneurship and digital innovation, young people are already demonstrating what is possible when they have the skills, resources, networks and platforms to participate meaningfully.
But inclusion cannot stop at participation.

We must ask: Who has access to resources? Who gets to make decisions? Whose ideas are heard? And who gets to lead?
Creating a more inclusive agri-food and energy future requires us to shift power, challenge structural barriers and invest in young people not only as beneficiaries, but as entrepreneurs, innovators, leaders and champions of systems transformation.

This International Youth Day, let us move from speaking for young people to creating spaces where young people can speak, lead and shape the future themselves.

Because our contexts may be different, but our aspirations are very much common.

Scenes: Entrepreneurs participating in the ongoing Gender Transformative Approach GTA Small and Medium Enterprise Business Training and Coaching Loop (GTA SME Loop), a three-day training facilitated by CoELIB with support from the European Union and GIZ under the "Investing in Young Businesses in Africa" - Supporting Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development (IYBA-SEED) intervention.

The training is equipping participants with practical business knowledge and skills, while creating opportunities to learn, exchange experiences and strengthen approaches to enterprise growth and sustainability.

The IYBA SEED Project seeks to strengthen the growth, resilience, and market competitiveness of selected MSMEs through an integrated model of training, coaching, and compliance support.

Development doesn’t happen through policy alone—it happens when people understand it, engage with it, and take ownership of it. That is why media remains an essential partner for the Power for Food Partnership (P4FP) in driving sustainable development.

The launch of the Bungoma County Agroecology Strategy demonstrated the power of strategic media engagement. Through coverage by The Standard, West TV, Luyaa TV, Sasa Radio, and other media partners, conversations on Regenerative Agriculture (RA) and the Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) reached farmers, policymakers, development partners, and the wider public.

As highlighted by Rikki Agudah of the Society of Crop Agribusiness Advisors of Kenya from policy to implementation through sustained investment in RA and PURE.

Raising awareness of these approaches is critical to building climate resilience, improving agricultural productivity, and strengthening livelihoods.

P4FP values the media as a catalyst for development. By translating research into accessible stories, amplifying evidence-based solutions, and giving voice to local experiences, the media helps bridge the gap between policy and practice.

The movement appreciats their imtegral role in fostering informed dialogue and accelerating the adoption of innovations that contribute to resilient and sustainable food systems.

Kenya has earned a reputation as Africa’s Silicon Savannah, yet the journey from innovation to large-scale transformation remains a work in progress. The newly released white paper, Accelerating Twin Transitions in Kenya, explores why promising digital and green innovations have yet to reshape entire sectors—and what it will take to unlock systemic change.

The report highlights practical recommendations on strengthening policy, financing, market creation, and ecosystem coordination to help sustainable innovations move from niche solutions to mainstream impact.

We’re proud that CoELIB contributed technical input and insights to this important publication, helping strengthen the analysis through collaborative engagement with fellow ecosystem actors.

An ongoing consultative meeting is being held with the Kisii National Polytechnic (KNP) to advance the establishment of an incubation centre under the AGSKILLS project. The incubation centre is envisioned as a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills development, supporting trainees, startups, and local enterprises within the agricultural value chain (AVC).

AGSKILLS is a EUR 3.5 million project funded through the Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) programme, which is implemented by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD).

The SIFA programme is funded by the German Development Bank (KfW). The project aims to strengthen both the human and infrastructural capacity of Kisii National Polytechnic, enabling the institution to deliver high-quality, market-relevant, and gender-responsive skills programmes that enhance competitiveness within the agricultural value chain.

As a strategic primary partner, CoELIB is providing technical assistance and in design, innovation, and technology, while also developing information and knowledge resources to support entrepreneurship, business incubation, research commercialization, and sustainable enterprise development.

This week, the Power for Food Partnership participated in the 3rd National Agroecology Symposium (NAS) held on 22–23 July 2026 under the overarching theme, "Transforming Agrifood Systems through Agroecology: A One Health Approach for Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Futures."

The event brought together 76 exhibitors from across the agroecology ecosystem, with exhibition stands evaluated under three key categories:

1.⁠ ⁠Agroecology and integration of the One Health approach.
2.⁠ ⁠Diversity, value addition, innovation, and market development.
3.⁠ ⁠Inclusion, knowledge co-creation, and influence.

SNV–Power for Food Partnership was recognised as the 3rd Best Exhibitor in the Inclusion, Knowledge Co-creation, and Influence category, reflecting its commitment to fostering partnerships, promoting inclusive knowledge sharing, and advancing the adoption of regenerative agriculture and productive use of renewable energy (RA–PURE) solutions.

Entrepreneurship is Africa's growth engine — and it needs real backing to thrive. 🌍💡

Across the continent, young people and women are building businesses that could power tomorrow's economies. What's often missing isn't ambition — it's access: to markets, finance, mentorship, and the right ecosystem support at the earliest, most fragile stage of a business's life.

That's where the Investing in Young Businesses in Africa – Supporting Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Development (IYBA-SEED) initiative comes in. The programme strengthens entrepreneurial ecosystems and improves access to development services for pre-seed businesses in promising sectors — building resilient economies and creating decent jobs for young people and women across Benin, Kenya, Senegal, South Africa and Togo.

CoELIB is proud to support IYBA-SEED's implementation in Kenya, helping local entrepreneurs access the tools and networks they need to grow.

The IYBA SEED Project is a European multi-partner initiative funded by the European Union and the governments of France, Germany and Slovakia, implemented by Expertise France, Enabel, GIZ, SAIDC and SNV.
