Start Small Start Small is a UK registered charity working in Nakuru Kenya, educating children and empowering our community through our school sponsorship program.

'Start Small' is a small charity with a lot of drive and passion, growing slowly to ensure we get things right as we go along. We believe the true way to make a difference is to educate the youth - they are our future! Through educating children we aim to break the 'poverty cycle' in as many families in Nakuru, Kenya - well, as many as we can in our lifetimes ;-). In addition to our sponsorship pr

A fresh start for Mama Dennis. 💛

After losing her kibanda in last year's floods, she's back in business. Over the past month, our team worked alongside her to find the right location, plan what to sell, and build a new kibanda with the help of her husband and one of our students.

How are we already coming to the end of Term 2? It feels like this year has flown by.

So much has happened over the past few months. Several of our students have started college and vocational training, settling into new routines and learning new skills.

And this month, we celebrated another exciting milestone, three more of our students were accepted to university and will begin their courses in September! 🎉

It's been a year full of new beginnings, and we couldn't be prouder of every single one of them. Here's to finishing the school year strong and all that's still to come. 💛

Then & Now 💙

It's hard to believe how quickly the years have passed! Meshack joined the Start Small family in Baby Class (pre-primary), and today he's in Form Three, with just one more year before completing secondary school.

While he has grown tremendously in height and confidence, one thing hasn't changed, his kind heart. He is still the same sweet, thoughtful, and humble young man we've known all these years.

Seeing students like Meshack grow from little children into confident young adults reminds us why education matters. We are so proud of you, Meshack, and excited to see all that's ahead.

It's catching up with a friend, welcoming someone into your home, celebrating good news, talking through hard days, or simply taking a moment to slow down together.

Some of our best conversations happen over a cup of chai and a shared meal. It's a simple reminder that community is often built around the table.

Every girl deserves to feel confident, supported, and able to show up fully in the classroom. 🌸

Our Girl Power program provides menstrual products, reusable period pants, and health education to help keep girls in school, reduces the stigma around periods, and create space for honest conversations about something that should never stand in the way of an education.

A simple product and a little support really can make all the difference. What might feel like an ordinary monthly expense for some is a huge burden for many girls and women around the world.

We are always looking for partners who believe in the power of education and want to help us reach more girls through the Girl Power Program. 📚️
