Today, Kapkures experienced a remarkable transformation thanks to a cleanup exercise organized by the Department of Environment, Nakuru Town West led by the Environment Officer Mr Kimani Kuria.
Kapkures Climate Change Planning Committee members, SAFE COMMUNITY FOR ALL (SCOFA) members , Community Health Promoters and Nakuru County Government - Official officials gathered at the Kapkures market, ready to make a difference. Armed with gloves, shovels, brooms, and garbage bags, the team set out to restore the area’s beauty and ensure a healthier environment for everyone. The team was in collaboration with the Department of Public Health and the Department of Public Service.
The cleanup not only removed heaps of garbage but also brought the community closer together. Volunteers worked tirelessly under the sun, collecting plastic waste, cleaning clogged drainage, and sweeping away debris. County officials used the opportunity to educate residents about proper waste management practices and the importance of maintaining a clean environment. They finally got to Chebusu area where some unknown individuals had turned the place to a dumping site ,a thorough clean up was done ensuring the place is clean and safe . They encouraged the locals to report those who will be seen dumping the waste in the place .
This exercise marked just the beginning of a larger mission to sustain cleanliness in Nakuru County. The Department of Environment expressed its gratitude to everyone who participated, pledging to continue such initiatives across the county. Kapkures now stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when communities and authorities join forces.
In attendance were Nakuru Town West Environment officer Mr Kimani Kuria, DCC Nakuru West, Public Health Officers led by Gladys, Andrew Kairu the Ward Administrator ,Area Chief and other Environmentalists, Alilejos Environmental Services, Naswama, Nakuru Waste Pickers Association and Nakuru Waste Collectors (Reclaimers).
