A happy update on my donkey - Duke.

It is so heartwarming to see how happy and settled he is after being rescued from such a traumatic start.

He is very spoiled. He follows our cook around because he knows he gets the vegetable scraps from the kitchen as do the baby calves.

Everyone here laughs at me (Sandie Stirgess) when I mention my donkey. It is very unusual to have an animal like him as a pet. I had thoughts about my girls from One Tribe Mama's Project teaching him to pull a cart and transporting them around our village “Little House On The Prairie Style”. Unfortunately he is prone to being a little moody so I’m not sure how trainable he will be!! 😂 So, for now, he will remain a donkey of leisure. An ornamental donkey.

Duke is loving his very easy life at Mission in Action - Kenya. Thank you to Damaris Rigiri Budulica for accepting another mouth to feed. I’m sure you didn’t need one!! 😂

Graduation season has arrived in Kenya, and with it, a sense of pride and accomplishment. Our preschool graduates are moving up to primary school, while our high school graduates are on the threshold of a new era.

Today's ceremonies are a testament to their perseverance and achievements, and we are honored to celebrate with them.

Well it’s spring in Australia and the rainy season in Kenya. 😂

Uncle Jerry (Sandie’s husband) decided to take the children for a walk to the river after Church yesterday on Sabbath.

They love doing this. It’s an adventure for them. I don’t know if you do but I remember a time where I would be outside in nature exploring rivers, creeks and nature for hours.

Anyway, it was cloudy. Very dark threatening clouds. In Kenya when it’s like this it’s not only threatening to rain it’s promising!!

Uncle Jerry decided to press on anyway. The rain came. And I can guarantee it wouldn’t have just been a light shower! lol

But one thing I know… the children will be talking about their fun and crazy walk in the rain for a long time to come! 😂😂

Here we are.
The OG's.
Est: 2009.

If you don't work in the not-for-profit sector or cross-culturally, then you may not understand the challenges of this work. We all know that what you give out comes back to you, and I'm sure you have all seen the many gifts of helping someone else. But working day to day with vulnerable people who are affected by trauma is hard. Anyone who does this work will tell you that. It takes effort every day. Working, planning, and coordinating.

I could not have started One Tribe Mama's Project without Dama and, of course, Ivan. Dama has helped me every step of the way. Guiding my girls, mentoring them, and also advising me on important decisions.

I think she feels the same about Mission in Action - Kenya. We work together every day, sending messages, emails, and having meetings about what is happening daily at the Mission.

When I write a post about my family, it always includes tagging Dama as it did Ivan. We are family for better or worse. Simple.

Some supporters have been asking why I have been posting a lot about O.T.M and not as much about MIA. Honestly, Damaris, Jerry, Carly (our Board member), Cyrus, and I have decided it's high time to expand this little project, and I have been caught up and excited by it. So, as I look back at my social media, I can see that it is the case, and I will change that.

Of course, I am still working for MIA as per normal. A lot of exciting things have happened since our older children started college, and our younger children are currently on school holidays. Stay tuned for our post. 😊

Most of us have seen images of children in Africa running with a tyre and spinning it with a stick. It's a simple joy that gives hours of fun.
There is very little wasted here. Everything can be used for something.

We were lucky enough to have a lovely visitor to the Mission who took some photos and shared them with us.

It's amazing how beautiful images can look when they're taken by someone with talent.

Thank you to Brian Anderson for sharing these.

To say we are proud is an understatement.

While we won’t go into personal history, this girl has triumphed over early adversity and challenges, emerging as an inspiring and accomplished role model for her siblings.

This is Inna’s graduation from the National Youth Service of Kenya.

You will see in the photographs Inna’s brothers and sisters proudly supporting and cheering her on at the graduation ceremony.

We love you and are so proud of you Inna.

Today is an important day in Kenya.

It’s ‘The World Day Against Human Trafficking’

Today thousands of people will meet at the Showground in Nakuru to hear key speakers talk on exactly what trafficking is and what you can do about it.

Did you know that Ivan Budulica saved many trafficked women and girls from an unimaginable future and they are now leading empowered lives.

We are continuing that Mission that he established so well, and we hope to grow it, as he would have wanted, long into the future.
