Across flower farms, women rise before dawn to harvest the blooms that travel the world, yet they are often hit hardest by climate change and gender injustice and heard the least.

Rising temperatures and water scarcity are disrupting harvests, threatening wages and livelihoods. At home, these same women walk further for water, stretch shrinking incomes and often face unsafe conditions both on and off the farm.

We brought women flower farm workers together for a training on climate-resilient practices, and created a safe space for them to talk openly about the gender & Climate injustices they face. They left with positive coping skills, greater confidence and a stronger voice.

Leona Foundation joined the Nakuru County Government and fellow stakeholders in launching the Agroecology Implementation Framework and Monitoring and Evaluation plan, a major step toward sustainable, climate-resilient farming in the region.

This framework will guide efforts to strengthen food systems, protect biodiversity and empower local communities through agroecological practices. We're excited to be part of this collaborative journey and look forward to contributing to its implementation.
Together, we're building a greener and more resilient Nakuru.

Gender injustices continue to be a major threat in many communities.

In our ongoing Climate and gender intervention we are working in empowering communities not just on climate issues but also on ways to curb gender injustices. We have equally been offering psychosocial support for both group and individuals who are survivors of mental health challenges induced by climate change and gender injustices.

We are keen to engage communities at every level from inception to implementation.

Real restoration isn't just about planting trees, it's about people. When the communities who live closest to the land have a voice in restoration decisions, projects last longer and deliver more benefits.

That means going beyond a single town hall meeting. It means listening to women, who often manage household land and natural resources but are rarely centered in formal decision-making. It means creating space for youth, who will inherit these landscapes and bring fresh energy and ideas. It means building trust with local leaders and elders who hold generational knowledge of the land.

In our pursuit of transforming communities we were joined by agronomists to access high value avocado tree seedlings in one of the community nursery we support.

They offered on ground training and tips on maintaining healthy nurseries free from pests and diseases.

Its delightful to in see the nursery group members supporting their families effortlessly from the financial and social-economic growth from the support we've given them over the last 1.5 years.

Meet Mama Nyokabi, In three years, she will be harvesting high value fruits. Today, she will not just be growing fruits but a future for generations.

Today, we're distributing fruit tree seedlings to families in Elburgon & Nyamira in our community - but this isn't just about trees, It's about people.

It's about Mama Nyokabi finally being able to pay her daughter's school fees through her own harvest!

It's about John starting his first small business selling oranges, avocados and pawpaws at the local market.

It's about grandmothers who will no longer depend solely on their children for support.

Every seedling planted today is an investment in someone's income, someone's dignity and a community's dream for the next three years.
๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฅญ๐Ÿ‹ We believe growth starts small - one fruit tree, one family, one community at a time.

After the sessions we held expressive therapy, we created a safe space for men to voice what matters, to release what weighs heavy and to connect authentically.
We encouraged the men to adopt nature therapy and other positive coping mechanisms for their mental health.

In partnership with Museums of Kenya, we visited Nakuru Teachers Comprehensive School today.

We planted fruit trees that will feed them, indigenous trees that will provide shade and biodiversity for future generations and filter our water. We also planted ornamental trees to remind them that even in the climate crisis, there is beauty worth protecting.

The truth is millions of African children still walk miles for clean water. Some don't have a choice, some face violence against children (VAC) while going to fetch water.

But the real seed we planted? Hope and agency because the children didn't just watch, they dug and planted and adopted the trees that they will nurture. In 1.5 years, they will be enjoying the fruits from the guavas, mangoes, oranges and passion fruits.
