*"I WAS DRINKING RESPONSIBLY" - The Story of Mike, CEO of Taraji*

He had it all.

Mr. Mike was a *Bank Manager* in one of Kenya’s biggest banks.
Nice home. Nice car. Beautiful family.
Respect in the office. Respect in the estate.

And yes... he drank.
But he had an answer for everyone:
*"Mimi na-kunywa responsibly."*

He drank responsibly.
So he told himself coming home at 4am was fine.
He drank responsibly.
So eating nyama choma before the beer made it "food".
He drank responsibly.
So spraying expensive cologne to hide the smell meant he was "presentable".
He drank responsibly.
Because a manager, with a degree, with a suit... cannot have a drinking problem. Right?

But Mike didn’t know the devil keeps books.
And every "two beers" he took every day was digging a pit for him.

He couldn’t hear his wife anymore.
He couldn’t hear his children anymore.
He couldn’t even hear himself.

Slowly, beer became spirits. Spirits became drugs.
And the man who signed loan approvals... couldn’t sign his own name without shaking.

He lost the job.
He lost the family.
He lost the car.
He lost the home.
He lost his dignity.
The once tall, dark and handsome man became a shadow.

For years he was DDO - Drunk, Disorderly, and Out of hope.
Until one day, with tears and nothing left, Mike said: *"Enough is enough."*

God picked him up.
Mike picked up the pieces.
And God turned his pain into purpose.

*Today, that same Mike is the CEO of TARAJI REHABILITATION CENTER - GILGIL AND MURUNYU*

He’s not preaching from a book. He’s preaching from scars.
He has been where you are. He has told himself the same lie: _"I drink responsibly."_
And he came out.

At *Taraji*, Mike and his team don’t judge you. They understand you.
Because they’ve sat where you’re sitting. They’ve made the same excuses.
That’s why so many families have found healing there. I’ve referred many, and trust me - lives have changed.

To the man telling himself "I only drink over the weekend"...
To the lady saying "I only take wine with dinner"...
To the graduate saying "I deserve one beer after work"...
To the father saying "I’m still providing, so I’m fine"...

*That is the devil’s plan to finish you slowly.*
Responsible drinking is still drinking your future away, one bottle at a time.

If you, or someone you love, is tired of the lie - there is hope.

*A Tribute to Mapee: A Champion We Lost Too Soon*

Many of us first knew Mapee as the hardworking young man at 3NS Sacco. That same work ethic followed him when he joined my team. He showed up. He gave his best. He cared.

When Mapee made the brave decision to stop drinking, we all saw the truth: alcohol had stolen a brilliant man from us. But God gave him back. In those few months of sobriety, Mapee was transformed. He was the kind of person you wanted near you. Kind. Present. Full of light. He had a good heart, and it showed in everything he did.

His death has left a hole in my team and in me. We lost a recovery champion. In Mapee, I saw hope. I saw the man who would walk with others out of darkness and into this new life of sobriety. I believed he would help save so many more.

We will not let that hope die with him. We will speak his name. We will use his story. Mapee is now our example of courage, of how one strong decision can change a life, even if only for a season.

We cannot question our Creator. So I won’t. I simply ask for God’s grace to cover his family in this hard time. May they feel the same peace Mapee found in his sobriety.

I also want to thank my brother Mwirigi. You preached to Mapee. You understood him. You became his close friend when he needed one most. Your effort mattered. It still matters.

Our team has lost a great man. I have lost a brother, a fighter, and a friend. But I trust God’s ways, even when they hurt. He knows why. And I believe He will comfort us and raise up others to carry Mapee’s torch.
To God be the glory.

*Rest well, Mapee. Your decision to fight inspired us. Your few months of light will guide us for years.*

In the midst of strict rules and discipline in NYS, I found myself chasing the highs of illicit drink in Mathare North, where alcohol flowed like water in sachets. My destiny was on the line, and the devil was all too aware of the greatness God had planned for me - that's why he tried to destroy me. But I'm not here to dwell on the past.

As I reflect on those days, I'm reminded that the enemy is still on the prowl, seeking to hijack destinies and stifle greatness. The truth is, many are facing similar battles today, struggling with addiction and feeling like they've lost their way. But here's the thing: your story isn't over yet. Your destiny is still within reach. And to those who care, let's join hands to support and rescue those who've been held back. Together, we can help them reclaim their purpose and reach their full potential.
To God be the glory.
