BASKETBALL WITHOUT LIMITS Basketball without limits (BWL) is an association of like-minded youth in Nakuru bound together by their love for basketball. The group was formed by the need to freely enjoy the game of basketball without being limited by facilities and equipment to play the game. The unavailability of basketball courts in nakuru town meant for the public is a major factor that brought t
he youth together. In the town, all the basketball courts that are playable are owned by institutions, public and private learning institutions and churches. Access to these facilities is obviously limited and dependant on many other factors outside the control of the basketball lovers. And with the Corona virus pandemic COVID-19, the situation worsened as these institutions had to comply with the Government regulations to ensure that the spread of the virus is limited. With these guidelines it meant that schools which have been our major hosts had to deny us access to their facilities hence leaving us without a place where we could enjoy the game
Circumstances beyond our control have also been affecting us. Weekdays, for instance between 8am and 5pm, these facilities are unavailable especially in learning institutions. During weekends when these institutions have other more important functions, the courts are inaccessible and basketball activities are shelved until the institutions are free. Whereas we cannot gainsay the huge role these institutions have played in nurturing nascent Basketball talent, BASKETBALL WITHOUT LIMITS realized that time to de-link decouple the game from these institutions was long overdue mainly due to many of the limitations that come with The change of guard at the administrative levels of these institutions. Every time a new administrator is introduced to an institution where basketball is hosted, the bureaucratic process of seeking appointments, introducing ourselves and seeking fresh permissions to use their courts for basketball activities is inevitable. BASKETBALL WITHOUT LIMITS has also seen the struggle that many basketball lovers especially those from poor neighborhoods go through as far as the acquisition of balls, sneakers and other basketball Equipment is concerned. Countless times the youth have gathered at their favorite Basketball court in readiness for basketball games only to be denied the opportunity to play because of lack of a playable ball .It is because of the above background that the basketball lovers came together to try and alleviate the situation and remove these limits to playing of basketball in Nakuru town. So far the group has contributed funds and donated basketball to a number of local basketball clubs participating in the county Basketball league. This has been an on-going activity. The next and boldest step that BASKETBALL WITHOUT LIMIT decided to embark on is the construction of a public basketball court in the town, a court where all Basketball enthusiasts can access without limits. This we believe will be the seed that will liberate all the abundant Basketball potential of the town, from nurturing talents to hosting major Basketball events. That is our ambition and together with the likeminded individuals we do know that this mega project that we dared to dream is valid and will be realized. As we take this great step we would like to urge organizations, donors and well wishers to donate and help us realize this dream that will change the lives of youths within this great county and country.
