🍯 If honey is what you're after, start moving your boxes where the treasure actually sits.
Too many beekeepers overlook one simple truth: proximity is profit.
Forcing your bees to fly 2km+ just to reach a nectar source is like making them burn half their payload on fuel before they even get home. That "tiny commercial airplane" energy cost adds up fast - and it directly shrinks your harvest.
When you park your hives 10–20 meters from an acacia forest, right at the edge of a canola or sunflower field, you multiply your workforce output dramatically. Shorter flights = more trips per day = significantly more nectar coming in.
This is especially critical during short, explosive flows like acacia, which can last only 10–12 days before rain wipes it out. Every extra trip counts.
Beyond higher yields, close placement also protects your bees from sudden spring storms that can ground and drown foragers far from home.
I’ve seen too many beekeepers say “the bees will manage”… only to end up with disappointing harvests.
Moral of the story: Move the boxes to the bloom. Don’t make your bees work harder than they need to.
