Kenyan Premier League side APS Bomet held a fundraiser on Wednesday night to boost their preparations for the coming season.

The event turned out to be the most successful of its kind by a local football club, raising close to Ksh 40 million.

Contributions came from corporates, politicians, and well-wishers, with the biggest donation being Ksh 12 million from an anonymous supporter. Family Bank also supported the initiative with Ksh 2 million.

Harambee Stars players will each receive a bonus of Ksh. 2.5 million if they defeat Zambia on Sunday.

President William increased the bonus from Ksh. 1 million to Ksh. 2.5 million today after meeting with the players and the technical team in Upper Hill.

It was agreed that a win against Zambia next Sunday would earn each player Ksh. 2.5 million.

Additionally, if the team wins the quarter-finals, each player will receive Ksh. 1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice, as part of the rewards.

Bandari’s coach benched goalkeeper Byren Omondi for most of last season, preferring Farouk Shikalo.

When Coach McCarthy arrived in Kenya, he also overlooked Omondi in his first games, probably because the boy had been warming the bench at Bandari. He would prefer Shikalo.

Even in the CHAN squad announcement, Omondi’s name was missing. It’s like someone later put in a word for him and he was brought into camp almost as an afterthought.

But when he finally joined the camp, Omondi must have convinced the technical bench that he is currently the best goalkeeper in Kenya. Through out CHAN he has been getting the nod ahead of Shikalo. He has been exemplary good. He has only conceded one goal and maintained two clean sheets.

Yesterday, he was the man of the match against a team that reached the World Cup semi finals just the other year and two time CHAN winners.

Sometimes, all a player needs is one chance to silence the doubters.
