The National Federation of PBOs/GPO : TEAM MEMEBERS TRIBUTES TO THE LATE Hon RAILA ODINGA

The special meeting convened at the national office to pay tribute to the late Hon.Raila Amolo Odinga commenced at 10:30 a.m on Thursday 16th October 2025 .*
The session was chaired by Chairman Stephen Cheboi, who warmly welcomed all members present.
In the opening remarks, the team leader acknowledged the importance of the occasion and emphasized the need to celebrate the life and legacy of a man whose contribution to Kenya’s political, social, and democratic landscape was immeasurable.
After the introductions among the members, the chair invited members to share their reflections, memories, and words of condolence to family and the nation.
The Federation & PBOs Leaders and individuals spoke passionately about Raila’s enduring legacy, his visionary leadership, and his commitment to public service.
The team members recognized that Raila Odinga’s passing was not only a loss to his family and political party but also to the entire nation, and even to Africa as a whole, due to his tireless advocacy for democracy, justice, peace, and good governance.
Many of the team members expressed deep sorrow over his passing, noting that his death left a great void in Kenya’s political and social life.
Each speaker appreciated his courage and steadfastness in fighting for multi-party democracy, national unity, and transparency in governance.
Hon. Raila Odinga was recognized for his instrumental role in shaping Kenya’s political environment, particularly through his efforts to advocate for peace, integrity, and fairness in leadership.
Members collectively expressed their condolences to the family of the late Raila Odinga, noting that his passing marked the end of an era in Kenya’s political history. They celebrated his life not only as a politician but also as a reformer, a patriot, and a peacemaker who always put the country’s interests before his own.
Several speakers emphasized that his leadership had created a platform for inclusivity, women’s empowerment, and youth participation in governance. Many recalled how his advocacy for justice and transparency inspired reforms that continue to shape the country’s democratic institutions.

Dr. Electine shared her personal experience and inspiration drawn from Raila Odinga.
She mentioned that she first came to know him through his political manifesto, which resonated deeply with her as a woman leader. His vision and values inspired her to run for the position of Women Representative. She acknowledged that Raila’s leadership and mentorship style encouraged many young leaders to believe in themselves and actively participate in governance.
Dr. Electine also reflected on Raila’s character as a peacemaker and a mentor. She noted that despite facing many challenges throughout his political journey, Raila remained committed to peace, unity, and the empowerment of others. She described him as a leader who valued inclusivity and justice above all else.
Director Momboi then took the floor and gave a detailed account of Raila’s background and family heritage. He noted that Raila was the son of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s Prime Minister, and that he carried forward his father’s legacy of fighting for democracy and equality
Director Alias lenana Ole momoi highlighted Raila’s tenure as a key leader in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), where he championed the rights of ordinary Kenyans and remained a symbol of resistance against oppression. He added that Raila’s political journey was marked by courage, sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism.
He further described Raila as a mentor to many leaders and citizens, including those from the younger generation. Among them was him when he vied for Kajiado South MP, where he was personally mentored by him.
In the closing remarks, the Chairman Stephen K Cheboi advised members to continue honoring Raila Odinga’s legacy by upholding the principles he stood for. He encouraged everyone to attend the national funeral service farewell, either physically or virtually, and to take part in paying their final respects.
He reminded members of the importance of safety during the event, especially for those travelling to attend the funeral, and urged them to maintain decorum and solidarity during the mourning period.
