The National Council of NGOs, popularly known as the NGOs Council, is a self-regulating, non-partisan body comprising all registered NGOs in Kenya. It was established in August 1993 under section 23 of the Non-governmental Organizations Co-ordination Act,1990(Laws of Kenya) as a forum of all Non -Governmental Organizations registered under the Act with a mandate of self regulation, capacity buildi

ng and policy intervention for the NGOs Sector.The Council operates through the decisions of the General Assembly (GASS) held annually.The NGOs Council membership includes international, regional and national NGOs operating in Kenya and working with a host of CBOs and groups. These NGOs are active in a cross section of sectors including: agriculture, water, education, environment, health, human rights, gender and development, children’s rights, poverty alleviation, peace, population, training, counseling, small scale enterprises, disability and many others. The NGO Council provides overall leadership to the NGO sector. It champions the key values of probity, transparency, accountability, justice and good governance. It enhances the self-regulation of its members, and assists them to realize their potential in improving services that improve the socio-economical status of Kenyan society in pursuit of sustainable development.

From Today Monday 5th January 2026 from 8.00a.m moving forward we are now open and ready for engagements with our PBOs Members and stakeholders , As we open for the year 2026, we do so with gratitude and a clear sense of purpose. There’s much to look forward to this year, including but not limited our engagement with community/county based, National and international organizations engagement and stakeholders .we remain committed to creating spaces for learning, connection, and meaningful progress across our PBOs and other sectors.
In 2026, let us all make a collective effort to continue with our
manifested and shared commitment to selfless service to humanity, and
the transformative power of our actions.
We moved forward together with unity and transformative agendas as we
built bridges across our Counties, we encouraged conversations and
dialogues that echoed far beyond.
The Public Benefit Organizations sector during the year 2025
demonstrated that resilience is not a passive virtue but a strategic,
active, and visionary for the wellbeing of our society.
We highly appreciated the strides we achieved in the year 2025, we
convened both national and county based, targeted forums and shared
briefs that enabled us to reach leaders and community actors at various
levels. We led National dialogues processes at various in the year 2025, the
period marked by courage, conviction, and catalytic change for the PBOs
sector
From January to December 2025, we shall continue to shape our destiny.
We transformed hesitancy into clarity, silos into useful County
networks, and legislation into meaningfully dialogues.
We shall work to Strengthen our regional and County Networks, we intend
to do more this year 2026 and beyond. We must develop strategic Advocacy Interventions in the coming months as we aim to enhance our efforts in 2026

The National Federation of PBOs of Kenya INVITES PBOs (NGOs) Members, other CSOs and organizations to participate in capacity strengthening and enhancing the skills and capabilities of our NGOs, the programme is aimed at empowering organizations them to operate more effectively, reach more people, and create lasting positive change in their communities.

The National Federation of Public Benefit organizations popularly known as PBOs Federation is as an umbrella organization of registered PBOs and self-regulation forums. The functions of the PBOs Federation include promoting self-regulation, coordinating and monitoring the self-regulation forums National unity is important because it promotes peace and stability, fosters economic growth, and enhances national security. It encourages social cohesion by fostering a shared identity and values, which reduces conflict and allows for more effective government action and a united response to threats. A united nation is also better positioned for international cooperation and development.

The National Federation of PBOs/GPO : TEAM MEMEBERS TRIBUTES TO THE LATE Hon RAILA ODINGA

The special meeting convened at the national office to pay tribute to the late Hon.Raila Amolo Odinga commenced at 10:30 a.m on Thursday 16th October 2025 .*
The session was chaired by Chairman Stephen Cheboi, who warmly welcomed all members present.
In the opening remarks, the team leader acknowledged the importance of the occasion and emphasized the need to celebrate the life and legacy of a man whose contribution to Kenya’s political, social, and democratic landscape was immeasurable.
After the introductions among the members, the chair invited members to share their reflections, memories, and words of condolence to family and the nation.
The Federation & PBOs Leaders and individuals spoke passionately about Raila’s enduring legacy, his visionary leadership, and his commitment to public service.
The team members recognized that Raila Odinga’s passing was not only a loss to his family and political party but also to the entire nation, and even to Africa as a whole, due to his tireless advocacy for democracy, justice, peace, and good governance.
Many of the team members expressed deep sorrow over his passing, noting that his death left a great void in Kenya’s political and social life.
Each speaker appreciated his courage and steadfastness in fighting for multi-party democracy, national unity, and transparency in governance.
Hon. Raila Odinga was recognized for his instrumental role in shaping Kenya’s political environment, particularly through his efforts to advocate for peace, integrity, and fairness in leadership.
Members collectively expressed their condolences to the family of the late Raila Odinga, noting that his passing marked the end of an era in Kenya’s political history. They celebrated his life not only as a politician but also as a reformer, a patriot, and a peacemaker who always put the country’s interests before his own.
Several speakers emphasized that his leadership had created a platform for inclusivity, women’s empowerment, and youth participation in governance. Many recalled how his advocacy for justice and transparency inspired reforms that continue to shape the country’s democratic institutions.
Individuals Further Contributions
Dr. Electine shared her personal experience and inspiration drawn from Raila Odinga.
She mentioned that she first came to know him through his political manifesto, which resonated deeply with her as a woman leader. His vision and values inspired her to run for the position of Women Representative. She acknowledged that Raila’s leadership and mentorship style encouraged many young leaders to believe in themselves and actively participate in governance.
Dr. Electine also reflected on Raila’s character as a peacemaker and a mentor. She noted that despite facing many challenges throughout his political journey, Raila remained committed to peace, unity, and the empowerment of others. She described him as a leader who valued inclusivity and justice above all else.
Director Momboi then took the floor and gave a detailed account of Raila’s background and family heritage. He noted that Raila was the son of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s Prime Minister, and that he carried forward his father’s legacy of fighting for democracy and equality
Director Alias lenana Ole momoi highlighted Raila’s tenure as a key leader in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), where he championed the rights of ordinary Kenyans and remained a symbol of resistance against oppression. He added that Raila’s political journey was marked by courage, sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism.
He further described Raila as a mentor to many leaders and citizens, including those from the younger generation. Among them was him when he vied for Kajiado South MP, where he was personally mentored by him.
In the closing remarks, the Chairman Stephen K Cheboi advised members to continue honoring Raila Odinga’s legacy by upholding the principles he stood for. He encouraged everyone to attend the national funeral service farewell, either physically or virtually, and to take part in paying their final respects.
He reminded members of the importance of safety during the event, especially for those travelling to attend the funeral, and urged them to maintain decorum and solidarity during the mourning period.
