At Business For Life, we believe that real change starts with knowledge in action. We’re transforming lives through practical business skills. Empowering people!

Strengthening communities! The Business for Life course addresses poverty among Kenyans who experience high rates of unemployment. Business for Life endeavors to train individuals to become self-supporting and self-sustaining. Facilitators select vetted people to start their own viable businesses within a community. By the end of the course each participant has learned and adopted basic business skills and has been involved in a money-making enterprise that they have personally chosen, using the Ksh500 ($7) that each raised and contributed as seed capital. The Business for Life course consists of a business training program targeting the poor and unemployed. Two qualified Facilitators interview and select approximately 20 to 25 individuals to take the course in an area where the participants live. The course lasts for a month where the participants spend alternative days learning business skills and principles in class and then each successive day conducting research and applying what they learned in the marketplace. Each participant conducts the necessary research, writes his/her own business plan, and starts an income generating activity during the course. Participants will attain and apply the necessary skills to run their own business and gain confidence from an informed perspective in starting and running their own business. The Facilitators visits each participant at regular intervals at his/her business over the course of the year following the one-month intensive training. In addition, each participant engages in a financial understanding exercise three months after the completion of the course to further assist with the application and adoption of the skills learned in the initial course.

At BFL, we believe in experiential learning. Classroom theory is good, but real-world ex*****on is where confidence is forged. That’s why Business For Life training includes practical research and money-making exercise during the training. Among many business aspects, participants conduct real local market research, test pricing strategies in real time and get to pitch to actual customers and generate immediate revenue.

When a learner makes their first real trade during training, doubt vanishes. They realize: 'I can actually do this.'

Business For Life teaches participants how to identify opportunities hiding in plain sight. Through the training, they figure out that sometimes the next business is already in their neighbourhood.
