More honest conversations. More safe spaces. More understanding. That’s how we change the story around mental health.

When we speak openly, listen without judgment, and create room for vulnerability, we break stigma and remind people they do not have to face their struggles alone.

At Nivishe, we believe mental health conversations should be unashamed, compassionate, and accessible to all.

Mental health is not only about responding when things fall apart it’s about building awareness, resilience, support systems, and healthy communities every single day. Prevention, education, early intervention, and ongoing care are all part of the journey.

The conversation starts before crisis, and the work continues beyond recovery. Advocacy means creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, informed, and supported at every stage of life.

At Nivishe, we believe mental health work is everyday work because healing, growth, and prevention matter just as much as intervention.

The Binti Wellness Circle continues to create safe and empowering spaces where adolescent girls can learn, ask questions, and grow in confidence. In this engaging session, the girls explored female reproductive health under the guidance of their facilitator, gaining knowledge that supports healthy and informed decisions.

Through open conversations, shared experiences, and interactive learning, the session gave the adolescent girls an opportunity to better understand their bodies, reproductive health, and overall wellbeing. Such spaces help break silence, challenge harmful myths, and encourage self-awareness from an early age.

At Nivishe, we remain committed to empowering adolescent girls with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to protect their health, embrace their worth, and build brighter futures.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, get to know Nivishe Foundation.

In this special conversation, Amisa Rashid shares the heart behind our work building communities where mental health support is accessible, dignified, and affordable for all. Guided by the belief that every individual deserves to heal with dignity, our work continues to create safe spaces for care, connection, and transformation.

Through our programs, we support maternal, child, and adolescent mental health, nurture mental health clubs in schools, and walk alongside communities through healing-centered initiatives that meet people where they are.

We also invest in the next generation of changemakers through our institute, offering fellowships and training that help young people understand and champion mental health through an African perspective.

This month, we invite you to get to know us, amplify the conversation, and together promote mental health in our communities and beyond.

We also had the pleasure of hosting fellows from Equity Initiative at Nivishe Foundation offices, where they met and interacted with teen moms under the Her Healing Journey (HHJ) program.

The fellows had the opportunity to listen to the teen moms share their lived experiences, challenges, and moments of growth as they navigate motherhood and healing. These conversations created a safe space for openness, reflection, and mutual understanding on the importance of psychosocial support and community-based care.

The session also became a powerful exchange of learning, with both the fellows and the teen moms sharing perspectives and insights. We remain grateful for such meaningful engagements that continue to strengthen connection, healing, and community support.

We were delighted to host fellows from Equity Initiative for a meaningful learning and engagement visit at Kibera Primary School, where they met the girls from the Sauti Ya Dada (SYD) program. The visit created a safe and welcoming space for interaction, allowing the fellows to learn more about the girls’ journeys, lived experiences, and the support systems that continue to empower them.

The fellows engaged in open conversations with the SYD girls, listening to their stories and sharing reflections from their own experiences and work. These moments highlighted resilience, confidence, and the importance of creating safe spaces that nurture and support young girls to thrive.

The visit also included discussions around our comic book initiative, exploring how storytelling can be used as a tool for mental health awareness, expression, and learning among young people. It was a meaningful exchange of ideas, learning, and connection.

Today, on World Maternal Mental Health Day, we join the global movement under this year’s theme, “A Decade of Voices.” At Nivishe Foundation, these voices are not just heard they are shaping policy, innovation, and community-led solutions for maternal mental health across Kenya.

As featured by MOVE92 in “From Loss to Innovation,” what began as lived experience has grown into a movement transforming maternal mental health from the ground up.

On 17th March 2026, through our Maternal Mental Health Wellness Clinic, we convened 60 Community Health Workers from Kibera (Kambi Muru & Kisumu Ndogo) frontline providers serving over 6,000 households.

CHWs shared urgent realities from the communities they serve: postpartum depression often goes unnoticed, stigma remains high, mothers miss clinic visits, and some experience severe distress including suicidal thoughts, often with limited community-level support.

They also highlighted a critical gap: while referrals are made to hospitals, there is a strong need for earlier community-based support and stronger local mental health pathways.

From loss to innovation. From listening to action. From voices to systems change. This is the Nivishe story.

Today, on World Maternal Mental Health Day, we join the global conversation under this year’s theme, “A Decade of Voices.”

For ten years, voices of mothers, families, caregivers, and mental health advocates have helped break silence, challenge stigma, and create spaces where maternal mental health is seen, heard, and prioritized.

At Nivishe Foundation, we believe that every mother deserves support, understanding, and access to mental health care during pregnancy, after birth, and throughout her motherhood journey.

Through our Her Healing Journey program, we continue creating safe spaces for young mothers to heal, connect, access psychosocial support, and rediscover their strength through community, care, and shared lived experiences.

Because when mothers are supported, families thrive, and communities grow stronger.

Just recently, we had the privilege of visiting the new headquarters and centre of The Action Foundation in Karen, a space filled with purpose, inclusion, hope, and unwavering commitment to children and young people with disabilities, and their families.

Today, it is heartbreaking to witness that same space affected by a devastating fire. While we are grateful that no lives were lost, the loss of a place that held so much impact is deeply felt.

Nivishe Foundation stands in full solidarity with TAF during this difficult time as they begin the journey to rebuild. We invite our community, partners, and friends to join in supporting their recovery and restoration.

As Sub County Medical Officer of Health in Kibera, Dr. Asma Awadh has worked at the intersection of public health, equity, and mental wellness integrating mental health awareness into frontline healthcare systems serving some of Kenya’s most underserved communities. Her leadership continues to influence how mental health is addressed not only locally, but within broader global health conversations.

As she stood to receive her recognition at the NIVISHE Top 10 Women in Mental Health Awards, she issued a call to action to lead community-driven solutions, empower health workers, strengthen Community Health Promoters, and work together to build safe, non-judgmental spaces for people living with mental health challenges.

Because transforming systems begins with transforming communities.
