The TB Patient Charter belongs to both of us. It is a mutual contract between you and your healthcare team, built to ensure a dignified, effective path to complete healing. Looking closely every single right you have as a patient is backed by a responsibility that empowers you and protects your family.
The Rights You Must Demand:
Uncompromising Dignity: Free, high-quality treatment entirely free from stigma, prejudice, or discrimination.
Absolute Transparency: Full clarity on your dosages, side effects, and the right to a second opinion.
Justice & Security: Full privacy of your records and the right to join peer support groups to protect your job and livelihood.
The Power You Must Exercise:
Be Honest: Give your healthcare provider your full medical history to save your life.
Be Relentless: Conscientiously follow your treatment plan to defeat the bacteria for good.
Be a Champion: Spread the word, fight the stigma, and march with peer patients toward a total cure.
Better partnership. Better care. Better outcomes. It starts when we both step up.
Know it. Share it. Practice it.

The TB Patient Charter belongs to both of us, it is a shared promise between you and your healthcare team to ensure a dignified, supportive, and successful treatment journey.
As you can see, a healthy relationship between a patient and a healthcare provider is anchored on five essential pillars:
🔒 Privacy: Your health information is always secure and protected.
🤝 Trust: Open, honest communication guides every step of your care.
🛡️ Dignity: Every patient deserves to be treated with absolute respect.
🔗 Partnership: Decisions are made together as a team.
💙 Quality Healthcare: Access to the standard of care you rightly deserve.

TB treatment is a journey you don't have to walk alone. When healthcare workers and patients understand their mutual roles, we create an environment where everyone thrives.
📖 Know it. Share it. Practice it.

Ask your healthcare provider about the TB Patient Charter at your next visit!

This week, the NTBC-K leadership is participating in a global meeting on Vaccine Preparedness. They are representing the collective voice of our network and the thousands of people living with TB and survivors we stand for across Kenya.
As an organization, we refuse to sit on the sidelines. We are here to drive the conversation, pushing for a future where a new TB vaccine is not just a scientific breakthrough, but an accessible, equitable reality for all. We are actively engaging with our regional partners to ensure that our voices and the lived experiences of our communities are foundational to the policy decisions being made today. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: Did you know? In Kenya, health facilities have NO legal right to detain you, a loved one, or the body of a deceased person over unpaid medical bills. Medical bills are civil debts, NOT grounds for detention.

Many health facilities continue to unlawfully hold discharged patients or the bodies of deceased persons because of medical bills. Kenyan courts have been clear and consistent:
Medical bills are civil debts, not grounds for detention.
Hospitals must use lawful debt recovery mechanisms, not coercion.
The dignity of both patients and deceased bodies must always be respected.

Healthcare is a right, and human dignity is non-negotiable. Please share this post it could help a family in need today.
