Today, we celebrate the strength and courage of women everywhere, especially the incredible women in the Special Olympics movement who continue to redefine what is possible.
This yearโ€™s International Womenโ€™s Day campaign, โ€œGive To Gain,โ€ reminds us that when we invest in women through opportunities, visibility, leadership, and support, we all benefit.
Today, we honor the women in our movement; the athletes who continuously break barriers, the coaches and volunteers who uplift others, and the families who champion inclusion every day.

It is one week since the Special Olympics Africa Regional Athlete Congress and Youth Summit, and the reflections continue.

Moments like these remind us that true inclusion is not about running initiatives that simply check boxes. It is about being intentional. It is about putting deliberate effort into creating opportunities that activate the power within our athletes and, more importantly, sustain that power so they can grow into bold and influential leaders both within and beyond Special Olympics .

Our athletes are not voiceless.
What they need are systems, platforms, and communities that amplify their voices and ensure they are heard, valued, and represented.
Because when athletes are empowered, supported, and trusted to lead, they donโ€™t just participate, they transform the movement.

Join the movement.

Be part of building a world where every athleteโ€™s voice matters.

Youth leaders with and without intellectual disabilities (ID) are leading the charge in Africa at the 2026 Special Olympics Africa Regional Athlete Congress and Youth Summit in Johannesburg.

At the end of the summit, Sammy Kamande, Global Athlete Leadership Council member and Special Olympics Kenya athlete, made this plea:

"Thank you so much to all the delegates for being here. And a sincere appreciation to Special Olympics Africa and Special Olympics International for making this conference a success. As you see me running for the ball in this photo, I ask you to see something deeper.

There are still athletes waiting. Still athletes watching. Still athletes hoping for an opportunity. Let us not sit back. Let us go to the field. Let us roll up our sleeves. Let us run for them. Let us find them. Let us bring them home to Special Olympics."

Join Sammy's fight for the athletes who haven't found a home at Special Olympics. How will you and bring these athletes home?

Healthy Thursday tips.

Research consistently shows that people with intellectual disabilities are at higher risk of poor oral health. While many brush their teeth daily, studies reveal high levels of plaque, gum disease, untreated cavities, and very low use of floss and fluoride. One key finding stands out: the quality of oral hygiene greatly improves when caregivers are actively involved and informed.

Hereโ€™s how you can help protect your childโ€™s smile:
1. Supervise or assist brushing at least twice a day
2. Use fluoride toothpaste and the right toothbrush size.
3. Encourage gentle brushing of gums and tongue.
4. Introduce flossing or interdental cleaners where possible.
5. Schedule regular dental check-ups, not only when there is pain.

Turn brushing into a routine and a positive experience
