Concepts for Community Programmes—through its work in emergencies and long-term development strategies has saved lives, relieved suffering and provided opport

unities for a better standard of living for thousands of people. We work primarily within communities and regions ranked as high priority by the UNOCHA Human Development Report. Action for rural development implements emergency response programs as well as long-term development programs in the areas of livelihoods, Reintegration, health, HIV&AIDS, and education.

🐄 Anticipatory action in Kenya show the value of investing in resilience, instead of waiting for disaster to strike.

In 2017, drought threatened pastoralist families in northern Kenya; acting ahead, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) invested US $90 per household to protect their herds and livelihoods. The results were striking: every dollar spent brought a direct return of nearly $3.5 – and when the avoided emergency costs were included, the benefit rose to $8.9.
