The ongoing coordination forum for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) preparedness at the National Public Health Institute (NPHI) continues to provide a platform for partners and the NPHI to identify risk areas within South Sudan. The 15 identified counties will have trained health workers deployed for screening and to establish referral pathways.

Today our team from Save the lives had a radio talk show at Radio Maria on the outbreak of the Ebola.

The aims of the radio talkshow is to increase public awareness about Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), promote preventive practices, encourage early reporting of suspected cases, dispel myths and misinformation, and strengthen communities who shared the borders check points like for Ugandan and DR Congo, traders and travelers to participate in preventing the spread of Ebola in accordance with the guidance of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Day two.
Save the Lives Organisation (SL) attended the Central Equatoria State Citizens’ Talk for Peace Forum as an invited member of Central Equatoria State Civil Society Network (CESCSN). The workshop was organised by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organisation (CEPO) and UNMISS to strengthen citizen preparedness ahead of South Sudan’s first-ever general election on 22 December 2026.

The forum brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders: Civil Society Organisations, Members of Parliament, State Ministers, City Councils, the Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce, the Central Equatoria State Youth Union, the Women Union, Persons with Disabilities and traditional leaders. This composition ensured that discussions reflected political, economic, civic, and community perspectives.

The dialogue focused on the roles of citizens in peace, governance, democracy, and human rights. On peace, participants considered community responsibility to prevent election-related tensions, counter incitement, and resolve grievances through dialogue. On governance, the forum addressed transparency in voter registration and accountability of public office holders. On democracy, participants stressed informed participation, tolerance of political pluralism, and peaceful competition. On human rights, the discussions reaffirmed the rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and participation without fear of reprisal.

SL contributed technical input on civic responsibility and non-violent participation, underscoring that citizens are peacebuilders, monitors, and rights-holders throughout the electoral cycle. The State Ministers, MPs, City Councils, the Chamber of Commerce, the CES Youth Union, the Women Union, Persons with Disabilities and traditional leaders all affirmed the need for coordinated action at community and institutional levels.

The forum concluded with a joint commitment to promote community peace dialogues, support accurate public information, and uphold human rights standards throughout the electoral period. All participants agreed that the legitimacy of the 22 December 2026 election will rest on the active, peaceful, and rights-based engagement of citizens across Central Equatoria State.

Youth, Peace and Security Engagement at Pentagon Secondary School, Juba.

Save the Lives Organisation (SL), AfriYAN South Sudan, and Youth Link South Sudan jointly delivered a Youth, Peace and Security activity at Pentagon Secondary School in Juba, Central Equatoria State. The engagement brought together 40 students, 12 teachers, and representatives from the Gudele area youth council. Held under the theme “Young People as Architects of Peace in Our Communities”, the activity sought to equip students with practical skills for conflict prevention, dialogue, and civic participation in a city context shaped by rapid urbanisation, inter-communal tensions, and high youth unemployment.

The agenda was tailored to the realities of Juba and Central Equatoria in large .

Session 1: Understanding Youth, Peace and Security introduced the UNSCR 2250 framework and its relevance to South Sudan. Students mapped local conflict drivers, including land disputes, cattle-related crime in peri-urban areas, and tensions between students from different communities.

Session 2: Dialogue and Mediation Skills, facilitated by AfriYAN South Sudan peer mediators, saw students practise de-escalation techniques for school-based disputes and the spread of rumours on social media.

Session 3: Civic Participation and Safe Expression, led by Youth Link South Sudan, focused on how students can engage county authorities and school management through petitions, peace clubs, and community dialogues without resorting to violence.

A key component was the “Peace in My School” action-planning workshop. Working in mixed groups, students identified three priority issues: bullying along ethnic lines, absenteeism linked to insecurity after school hours, and limited channels to report grievances. Each group developed a mini-action plan, which included forming a Pentagon Peace Club, setting up a suggestion box system, and holding termly dialogue sessions with parents who frequent be at the school area. SL committed to mentoring the Peace Club and linking it to the Central Equatoria State Youth Peace Forum.

The three partner organisations played complementary roles. SL provided overall coordination and the community peacebuilding perspective; AfriYAN South Sudan delivered youth-friendly facilitation on mediation and sexual and reproductive health as it relates to conflict vulnerability; and Youth Link South Sudan anchored the civic engagement and advocacy component. This “three sisters” model enabled the activity to address peace, health, and participation in one integrated programme, reflecting the interconnected challenges facing Juba’s students.

The activity concluded with pledges from the school administration to institutionalise the Peace Club and allocate time in the termly calendar for peace education. Students committed to acting as “peace ambassadors” at home and in their neighbourhoods. All three organisations agreed to conduct a follow-up session next term to review progress and train 25 student peer educators. The joint team noted that investing in Juba’s secondary schools is critical to sustaining stability in Central Equatoria State, where young people form the majority of the population.

JUBA - South Sudan has not recorded any confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease despite outbreaks in neighbouring countries, the Ministry of Health said.

The ministry said seven suspected cases tested by the National Public Health Laboratory have all returned negative. The suspected cases were reported in Juba, Yei, Yambio and Nimule.

Health officials said surveillance has been intensified across the country, including enhanced screening at border points, laboratory testing, deployment of rapid response teams and community awareness campaigns.

Undersecretary in the Ministry of Health Dr. Oromo Francis said the measures are precautionary and should not be interpreted as evidence of Ebola transmission within South Sudan.
