Corruption in the insurance sector has seen all manner of operatives function to the detriment of the insuring public and other sector players.
Corruption has been condoned by the Commissioner of Insurance Regulatory Authority - Kenya Mr.Godfrey Kiptum, who is illegally in office and who is protected by none other than Ruto.
The two resignation letters attached are from Mzee Wa Nguvu and the treasurer, Irene, who finally saw the con game going with Clifford Ochieng in an association that was formed to counter Bima Intermediaries Association of Kenya . It was formed by the direct encouragement of Irakenya Helpdesk after they saw that Bima Intermediaries of Kenya friends cannot be contained.
This organisation is led by a guy who's behavior and demeanor is not of a professional insurance agent, a guy who is not even licensed to operate as an insurance agent.
The organisation is supported by other insurance companies who operate with impunity, like Trident Insurance company and Old Mutual Kenya . Old mutual is an incompetently run company that is quickly going downhill. Watch this space on that.

There's a scourge in this country that is spreading like bush fire and it is targeted at the insurance industry.
Someone will deliberately jump on your moving vehicle and later lodge a claim in the courts that you were involved in a hit-and-run. There are of course lawyers, known as ambulance chasers, who perpetrate this scheme. One of us has a had a first hand experience on the same.
This is what happened. A layabout about the village fell in front of his car. The guy doesn't get an injury or even a scratch on his body, but he wakes up limping and injured, probably from a prior accident. Our friends car, brand new, doesn't have a dent or scratch from the "accident".
When his car is taken for inspection the following day, the inspection report reveals that the vehicle has never had an accident, neither has it even been repainted. In the meantime the layabout has a lawyer who has quickly filed a case against the owner of the vehicle and the guy is in shock. He discovers it is not a joke when he get's summons from the court regarding the accident.
The case goes through the usual court motions and the case is dismissed.
Meaning that, these cartels are out to fleece insurance companies and insurance companies should be very wary of their investigators, who in more ways that one collude to fleece the insurance company.
We urge the regulator Insurance Regulatory Authority - Kenya to come up with ways to protect the insurance industry from these ambulance chasers and some punishment given to them.

Old Mutual Kenya is in serious threat of going into liquidation from this issue of Tropic Air over an over Kshs 350 million debt.
This brings about the issue of capitalisation,whereby you cannot get a risk that you cannot pay for, reinsurance aside.
But Old Mutual can pay, unless they do not want to. It's a multi-national company with assets all over. So what's the game plan here?

We have always maintained, that these amorphous groups calling themselves professional this or the other,are anything but.
We all know how the founder of the group was kicked out of this association for unbecoming behaviour,but he thought he could form his own too and continue conning gullible Kenyans.
Time vindicated us, when mid last year, he served jail time in Rwanda for the same antics he employed while with us.
We urge every agent to ignore these kind of groups,much as we always warn against such. We as an association are committed to serving the insurance industry with dedication and professionalism, which clearly lacks amongst most insurance intermediaries.

The lucrative medical scheme for teachers and the police misuse has gone on long enough and it a is high time that even Insurance Regulatory Authority - Kenya got involved in to curb this mess.
The fact that those two groups of people never enjoy insurance medical services for so many years means that people need to be held accountable and prosecuted.
These complaints by teachers and the police have gone on long enough and people need to be in jail right now. Otherwise this is a mockery of the insurance profession.

The insurance industry in Kenya still tops amongst the most corrupt ridden organizations and our courts are not helping at all. People are being auctioned everyday from non-payment of claims by most of these organizations. The regulator, Insurance Regulatory Authority - Kenya is trying to bring sanity to the sector, but his hands are tied by the courts who do not support his actions. Let's give credit where it's due.
Other industry players who should be supporting the regulator in his actions are busy being bribed by those crooked companies in the industry. Organizations like the brokers AIBK are busy getting money for their activities from crooked companies like Britam , who we have called out here in the past. That is not the spirit of membership organisations that are supposed to be the watchdog of the industry. I mean, they even dine with companies like Directline Assurance who are not known to pay claims...where are we heading to as an industry if our organizations are easily compromised by these companies?
We have called out various companies in this forum when they are busy conning agents or our clients off their money, companies like Jubilee Insurance Company of Kenya who use their billions to buy justice. Apparently, they are all in bed with AIBK.
We even thought our friend Jonah Tomno, now at Star Discover, a new company deemed to be affiliated to some politicos , would support proper organizations not tainted by scandals, but we guess his affinity for scandal has overruled his consciousness. Star Discover is supposed to be an off-shoot of AMACO, another scandalous company that should have been closed over two years ago. We wonder what is their mission...collect the premiums and go...it's anyone's guess.
We advise our clients and members on this forum against dealing with crooked individuals in the insurance industry because that is our mandate. This information is free of charge, maybe that's why its ignored so much and people still dealing with the Invesco's of this world.
