Compassion International Kenya

Compassion International Kenya Compassion International exists to release children from poverty in Jesus' name. Founded by the Rev. In Kenya, Compassion started its ministry in 1980.

Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training. Through our worldwide ministry, we

recognize that poverty is beyond a lack of money. Therefore, Compassion works with local Churches to address the spiritual, physical, economic, educational, and socio-emotional needs of children. Today, we assist over 2 million children and youth from poor households in 25 countries globally. After the enactment of the NGO Act, we were re-registered as an INGO in 1993. Compassion Kenya now works with over 30 different evangelical denominations in 30 counties across Kenya. Compassion Kenya partners with over 452 local churches spread throughout the country to minister to over 130,000 needy children and youth.

What defines a Smart Village Home?

A Smart Village Home goes beyond shelter; it is part of a holistic ecosystem designed to improve livelihoods and resilience. It integrates:
- Clean and reliable water systems
- Household-level agriculture for food security
- Environmental conservation practices
- Renewable energy for lighting and cooking

The Smart Village concept focuses on leveraging local resources and renewable energy to improve livelihoods and strengthen resilience in rural communities. This approach ensures that communities are not only supported but also empowered to thrive sustainably.

As we reflect on this past month in Turkana, we are reminded of the resilience, beauty, and hope that live within this community. From walking alongside local churches to welcoming over 3,000 children into holistic care, the work happening here is a powerful testament to partnership and transformation.

And this journey is far from over. The commitment to support children and families in Turkana will continue.

For those who may have missed it, you can still watch and experience the story here: http://bit.ly/4rOHXNM.

In Turkana, the Church is more than just a sanctuary; it’s a center of transformation. Church partners are reaching remote children with education, care, and water solutions. With 78.8% of households lacking formal education, we are investing in a new generation, one lesson at a time.
