We held a session for the boys on self esteem and decision making. This session helped the boys to communicate their thoughts and learn more about these important skills.

Throughout the year we run activities that help the boys think about where they are going, not just where they are. Vision boards are one of them. Every board is now displayed in Jifunze International House so the boys see their goals each time they visit.

Safety is taken seriously at the board level of Jifunze International. We have installed fire alarms, a fire blanket, two extinguishers and evacuation signs in the house. We also ran two full day fire safety training sessions for the boys, staff and soccer team leaders. Keeping the boys safe is the foundation everything else is built on.

Our boys are registered with FIFA under Australia, so when the Australian Women's team came to Kenya it was a moment we could not pass up. With tickets at $1.20 we brought the whole team. For most of the boys it was their first time in a stadium. Simple things make a big difference.

During the April school holidays the boys had a session with the coach of Embakasi All Stars. Issac spoke about character and the importance of team work. It was one of the sessions that stuck with the boys most. This is the kind of input we want to keep providing.

At the end of our February and April school holiday programs we held a feedback day. Jesse, studying Clinical Medicine and Surgery at KMTC, led the session with Robert, gathering honest input from the boys on meals, activities and what they want to see more of.

Sponsoring one of our soccer players costs $600 a year or $50 a month and covers uniforms, boots, welfare sessions and leadership camp. We are looking to sponsor 24 boys and are raising $3000 to make that happen.

Days like this keep the boys out of the slums and give them a space to show their leadership skills. Terrance, one of our catering students, got to show what he can do. You can see the power of community when you watch these sessions come together.

Bernard was one of the first students to live at Jifunze International House. He finished school in early 2023, went out on his own and built a business painting stickers on bars, schools, motorbikes and cars. He also did all the paintwork inside the house. This is what happens when young people are given a chance and the support to use it.
