This Labour Day, we celebrate the people turning sanitation into opportunity.
Across Kenya, local entrepreneurs, masons, and sanitation workers are building more than toilets; they are building businesses, creating jobs, and improving lives in their communities.
At FINISH Mondial Kenya, we are proud to support these changemakers through skills development, access to finance, and partnerships that help grow sustainable sanitation markets.
Behind every safe toilet is someone’s hard work, skill, and determination.

Today, we celebrate them.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate women like Gloria, a WASH entrepreneur who is helping expand access to safe sanitation while creating opportunities within her community.

Across many communities, women are often the most affected by inadequate sanitation services. Yet they are also among the most powerful agents of change — leading businesses, promoting healthier practices, and building solutions that improve lives.

Through the work of FINISH Mondial Kenya, women entrepreneurs are gaining access to the opportunities, skills, and partnerships needed to participate fully in sanitation markets.

This year’s **International Women's Day theme — Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls — reminds us that achieving equality requires removing barriers and ensuring women can participate, lead, and thrive across all sectors, including sanitation.

Because when women lead, communities gain healthier, more dignified futures.

Last week, FINISH-Mondial, in partnership with AllianzPartners, brought together 8 sanitation and waste management businesses from Nakuru and Bungoma Counties for a WASH Business Training.
This initiative goes beyond capacity building; it is part of a larger vision:
FINISH Mondial’s mission to strengthen the supply side of sanitation through financial inclusion, business growth, and sustainable service delivery. By equipping entrepreneurs with financial literacy, risk management, and governance skills, we help them access capital, create jobs, and expand sanitation coverage.
Beyond the sessions, the training created space for knowledge sharing and peer learning:
• At Jowapasi Cleaners, participants saw how waste can be recycled and reused, turning challenges into circular economy opportunities.
• During a field visit to Rocbo Multipurpose Cooperative, members showcased how community-driven waste collection models can scale through loans, asset acquisition, and value addition.
With this foundation, the 8 enterprises are now better positioned to:
• Grow their businesses and create new jobs
• Expand access to safe sanitation
• Secure financing of up to €50,000
• Build resilience through insurance and risk management
We believe entrepreneurs are at the heart of lasting sanitation solutions. Together with our partners, we are proud to support them in scaling their impact and driving inclusive economic growth.
