H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto today opened the Kenya Health Summit 2026 at KICC, Nairobi, under the theme “Reforms Delivered, Health as a Right.”

Led by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale, the Summit highlighted progress across health financing, digital health, specialised care, medical supplies and the health workforce, including expanded Social Health Authority registration, accredited facilities, digital health systems and specialised medical equipment.

The Summit brought together national and county leaders, health professionals, development partners and private-sector stakeholders to advance a people-centred health system where quality healthcare is a right for all.

AHF-Kenya is participating in the Summit and showcasing our various programs at the exhibition booth engaging young people, health stakeholders, partners and community members on sexual health education, STI prevention, access to quality healthcare services and advocacy opportunities for partnership.

AHF Kenya and the Makueni County Government have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to continue strengthening HIV testing, prevention, care and treatment services across the county.

Through this partnership, AHF Kenya will continue providing comprehensive HIV services to over 12,000 clients in Makueni County—representing approximately 50% of people living with HIV in the county. The renewed MOU reinforces our shared commitment to ensuring that people living with HIV have access to quality, comprehensive and client-centred care.

The MOU was signed by AHF Kenya Country Director, Dr. Samuel Kinyanjui, and H.E. Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., during a partnership-signing ceremony in Wote.

The renewal forms part of a broader collaboration between Makueni County and health partners to expand specialized and essential health services. Alongside AHF Kenya’s HIV response, new agreements with Sightsavers International, The HEM Practice Ltd. and Jacaranda Health Solutions will support eye care, specialized women’s health, minimally invasive surgery, and maternal and newborn care.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. emphasized the importance of partnerships in bringing quality specialized healthcare closer to the people of Makueni and strengthening the county’s health system.

At AHF Kenya, we remain committed to working alongside Makueni County to advance accessible, high-quality HIV services and help build a healthier community where everyone can thrive.

AHF-Kenya celebrated the graduation of 132 girls who successfully completed a transformative two-year Girls Act mentorship programme.

The programme has equipped girls with life skills, leadership, financial literacy, mental health awareness, SRHR knowledge, communication skills and entrepreneurship opportunities. 40 girls received income-generating skills training, 10 received scholarships and 19 girls proudly represented Kenya in the AHF Global Girls Act competition emerging no 1 globally in the year 2024.The rest of the girls empowered through mentorship program courses.

The celebration was graced by Mombasa Parliamentary Women Representative Hon. Zam Zam office and the County Government of Mombasa led by the County Director of Youth Affairs, Ms.Sabrina Yusuf.

Ms. Swabrina announced that Girls Act will be integrated into the Mombasa Youth Framework as an evidence-based intervention for reaching and empowering young women. The County also committed to supporting a Girls Act scholar to pursue a degree in Education at Kenyatta University following the loss of her family’s breadwinner.

Hon. Zam Zam office further pledged support for graduates to register as groups and access government funding, while three girls will receive hairdressing equipment to start their hairdressing businesses. Additional National opportunities through programmes such as NYOTA, Uwezo Fund and Ajira are also being explored.

To our 132 Girls Act graduates: Keep learning. Keep growing. Be bold and always make room for another girl to rise!

The global debt crisis is a human rights issue. When unfair debt payments are prioritized over people, life-saving programs for climate resilience, access to education, and universal healthcare suffer, leaving 3.4 billion people without the resources needed to live with dignity. Much of this system is tied to financial institutions and lending structures rooted in wealthier economies—making reform a shared responsibility. The U.S. and Europe can play a major role.

The Freedom from Debt campaign is calling for practical solutions:
✔A Borrowers’ Forum to strengthen developing countries’ negotiating power
✔Debt relief during public health and climate crises to protect lives
✔A 1% AI solidarity levy to invest in resilience

Today, AHF Kenya joined young people, government leaders, health providers, partners and youth champions in Kitengela, Kajiado County, and Mombasa County to commemorate International Youth Day under the powerful message: “Nothing for us without us.”

In Kajiado County, the celebrations featured a community clean-up from Kitengela Sub-County Hospital through Kitengela town to the CDF offices, distribution of condoms and reflector jackets to boda boda riders, HIV and STI screening, health education and edutainment. Hitech International College Kitengela Campus Principal, Mr. John Oboge, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to partnerships that keep young people informed, screened and tested for STIs.

In Mombasa, the commemoration at Tononoka Social Hall brought together youth, county leadership and partners, and was graced by H.E. Governor Abdullswamad Shariff Nassir. AHF provided HIV Testing Services and STI screening, while the Girls Act Social and Economic Empowerment Program showcased products created by empowered young women, highlighting their creativity, entrepreneurship and potential.

Across both counties, AHF reaffirmed its commitment to working with young people, not just for young people—through mentorship, skills development, youth-led initiatives, outreach, partnerships and accessible, confidential, stigma-free and youth-friendly HIV and STI services.

Young people belong at the centre of the decisions, programmes and solutions that shape their lives. Your voice matters. Your health matters. Your future matters. Happy International Youth Day!

Investing in young people is investing in a healthier future. 🌍❤️

In 2024, 370,000 young people ages 15–24 acquired HIV globally, including 145,000 adolescents ages 15 to 19, and 93,000 children ages 14 and younger acquired HIV in 2025. Yet as health budgets shrink, the programs and services young people need are increasingly at risk.

We already know what works: youth-friendly HIV and sexual and reproductive health services, comprehensive sexuality education, and safe spaces where young people can learn, ask questions, and be heard.

Through programs like Girls Act and Boys2Men, AHF is helping young people access knowledge, build supportive peer networks, and become advocates for healthier communities.

This , we’re calling for continued investment in young people—and a future where every young person has the knowledge, resources, and support they need to thrive.
